The update will be rolled out in 3 phases, the first of which will include a single phone, the Huawei P20 Lite. The phone will get the update this week.

The second phase of the Huawei EMUI 9.1 Update Roadmap, will begin next week on 24th July, will see four phones updated to EMUI 9.1. These will be the Huawei Y9 2019, Huawei Nova 3i, Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the Huawei Nova 3.

The final phase of the Huawei EMUI 9.1 Update Roadmap will comprise the Huawei P30 Lite and the Huawei P20 Pro, which will be updated by August 7th.

What’s new in EMUI 9.1?

EROFS File System

This is Huawei’s new file system, which will not only improve the speed (20% better average random read, up to 200%) and performance of the disk, but also helps save up to 2GB of disk space. The company claims will help the phone open apps, games, documents, music or videos, faster than ever.

GPU Turbo 3.0

Huawei has further tweaked its gaming tech, in GPU Turbo 3.0 to reduce power consumption by the CPU, which results in better battery life. It also improves the touch response, reduces frame drops, and delivers a better average frame rate, than when the feature is off. GPU Turbo is optimized for many popular games.

Apart from this the Update also has an improved Huawei Vlog to automatically edit Highlight videos with special filters, and also lets you manually choose from different effects, music. The AR Measure app lets you use the phone’s cameras as a measurement tool for various purposes including length, total area and volume and even the height of a person.

Dual-View Video is a new feature that allows users to record videos from multiple cameras at the same time. This feature even lets you set each camera to a specific task. For e.g. one camera can be used for wide-angle, another for close-up.

The HUAWEI Phone Clone option lets you switch to a new phone bringing all your your contacts, photos, videos. EMUI 9.1 also includes new wallpapers which were “inspired by the freezing moments of a paint colour collision and fluttering silk”.
