Google began rolling out Gemini’s Personal Intelligence on Android Auto on October 20, 2026. The feature lets Gemini use your own Google data when it answers questions in the car. It connects Gmail and Google Calendar along with Google Photos, Maps, YouTube and Search. Cars with Google built-in get it in the coming months.

Two details matter before you use it. Personal Intelligence is opt-in, but an earlier opt-in counts. If you already turned it on in the Gemini app, Google says it follows you into the car automatically. It also isn’t available in every country.
Where Gemini Personal Intelligence works in Android Auto
Google’s fine print limits the rollout to eligible personal Google accounts belonging to users aged 18 and older. Workspace business, enterprise and education accounts are left out. Users in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Nigeria are excluded too. The US and India are among the covered markets.
Google’s announcement describes Gemini as available in cars globally. That line covers Gemini itself, not the personalized layer on top of it. For drivers across most of Europe, Gemini in the car stays generic for now.
What it can do on the road
Without Personal Intelligence, Gemini in Android Auto still handles navigation, music and calls. It answers general questions too, but the replies aren’t tailored to you. Google’s own examples of the personalized version include:
- Checking your flight gate and whether the flight is on time
- Finding an indoor restaurant along your route that suits the places you usually like
- Getting directions to your doctor’s appointment
- Finding a car wash from a photo you took last week, then navigating there
- Heading to a coffee shop you talked about the day before
Cars with Google built-in work slightly differently. Google says they only share personal responses while you’re in the car with your phone connected.
How to turn it off
Your apps aren’t connected until you choose to turn it on, and you can turn it off anytime in your Gemini settings.
That’s Karan Daryanani, Sr. Product Manager for Gemini, writing in Google’s announcement.
The switch is real, but the default deserves attention. Personal Intelligence draws on your inbox, calendar, photos and Maps activity. Someone who enabled it for phone chats months ago gets the same access on the car screen without a fresh prompt. If you want your dashboard to stay generic, turn the feature off in your Gemini settings.
The car is the latest stop in a longer rollout. Gemini arrived in Android Auto in November 2025, and Personal Intelligence reached US users in March 2026. It is still labelled a beta in other markets. For another recent change, see how Gemini is folding Spark into its main chat as a Task Mode.
