AnTuTu publishes list of phones from 2015 with the best performance and you won’t believe which one was the top

AnTuTu, the popular benchmarking service, has published a list of phones from 2015, with the best performance.

Best performing smartphones of 2015

And you’re not going to believe which one was the top device.

If you can’t see the image above, I’ll give you a clue. It wasn’t an Android phone.

PhoneAnTuTu Benchmark Score
iPhones 6s(Plus) 132620
Huawei Mate 892746
Meizu Pro 586214
Samsung Galaxy Note 583364
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+82087
iPhone 6 (Plus)80554
OnePlus 279747
Letv 1Pro79624
Xiaomi Mi Note Pro 78903
Google Huawei Nexus 6P 78381

Number 1

Yes, it was the iPhone6S which took the crown. Apple’s phone with its own A9 chipset and 2GB of RAM, running on iOS9 was the no.1 performer, and by some distance, with a whopping 132620 points. It is likely that the operating system was highly optimized to perform effectively with the device.

And this in itself is a statement, which highlights Android’s biggest problems: fragmentation, and poor optimization. Devices with 3 or 4GB of RAM are often laggy, because of bloatware, and so called custom UI ROMs from manufacturers.

Number 2

The second place (and the top Android phone of 2015), was the Huawei Mate 8, with an in-house HiSilicon Kirin 950 SoC and 4GB of RAM, but only managed to score 92746 points, which is nearly 40000 points behind the iPhone’s score.

Number 3

Third in the list was the impressive Meizu Pro 5, powered by a Samsung Exynos 7420 and 4GB of RAM, clocking in 86214 points.

Number 4 and 5

Samsung took the 4th and 5th places with the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+, both devices powered by an in-house Exynos 7420 Soc with 4GB of RAM, and scoring 83365 and 82087 points respectively. Interestingly the Meziu Pro 5 ranked a spot above the two Samsung phones, despite all three using the same chipset, GPU and memory.

Number 6

Apple again left a mark in the list, with the iPhone6 taking up the 6th spot, and this is really astounding considering that the device has just 1GB of RAM, and yet managing to score 80554 points.

Number 7

OnePlus 2 ranked 7th in the list with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset and 4GB of RAM, scored 79747 points. This is not bad, considering the phone has been drawing flak for using an underclocked processor, and OxygenOS.

Number 8

Letv Le 1 Pro also with a Snapdragon 810 processor and 4GB of RAM sits in 8th place, with a 79624 score.

Number 9

Xiaomi’s  Mi Note Pro took up the penultimate spot in the list, with the same combo as the other two phones ranking above, a Snapdragon 810 processor and 4GB of RAM, yet it could only manage 78903 points, probably due to the MIUI rom it runs on.

Number 10

The last spot was taken up by the Google Nexus 6P, making it the second Huawei device in the list. Once again, a Snapdragon 810 device, but with 3GB of RAM, which scored 78381.

Only 4 Qualcomm Snapdragon powered devices made it to the top 10 and they were not even in the top 5. Times certainly are changing, aren’t they.

Note: Benchmarks are by no means the most accurate way to determine the performance of a device, but then again it does prove to be a deciding factor for most people.
