Samsung Find Drops Updates for Android 10 and Older Galaxy Phones

Samsung Find has stopped receiving updates on Galaxy phones and tablets running One UI 2.0 (Android 10) or older. Samsung is not switching the service off, but the app on those devices is now frozen at whatever version it is on, and Samsung itself warns that the app’s connection with newer devices may become limited over time.

What Samsung Find users on Android 10 and older lose

The change was delivered the way these things usually are — as a notice inside the app rather than a press release. SamMobile, which spotted the in-app notification, reports that devices on One UI 2.0 and older will get no new features, no performance improvements, no bug fixes and no further work on the app. Samsung also says the app’s connection with newer devices may be limited as a result. Samsung’s stated reason is to “ensure a more stable and high-quality service experience for all our users.”

What keeps working is the core of it. You can still open Samsung Find on an old Galaxy phone and locate a missing phone, tablet or SmartTag. If you uninstall the app by accident, it is still downloadable from the Galaxy Store or Google Play — you will simply get the newest build that is compatible with your firmware, not the current one. Samsung’s advice is to update to a newer One UI version if one is available for your device, then update the app.

For most people the practical question is which version they are on. Open Settings > About phone > Software information and check the One UI version listed there. Anything at 2.0 or below is affected. It is worth checking rather than guessing, because a phone’s final One UI version does not always line up with the Android version people remember it shipping with.

The sentence that actually matters

The headline framing here is reassuring — the service lives on, nothing is being deleted. The line worth reading twice is Samsung’s own caveat that the connection with newer devices may become limited. Samsung Find is not a standalone map; it is a client for a network that Samsung keeps changing, and a frozen client eventually drifts out of step with the protocol running on everything else. That means an older Galaxy phone could lose the ability to see a newly bought SmartTag, or to participate properly in the offline finding network, without any second announcement to mark the day it happened.

That is the consumer cost of an “app keeps working” end-of-support notice, and it is a pattern rather than a one-off. This follows Samsung’s decision to wind down Samsung Messages, and it lands in the same month Google ended Play Services support for Android 6 devices — the industry is quietly retiring the long tail of old handsets on several fronts at once. If a tracker you rely on is paired to a phone that stopped getting One UI updates years ago, treat this notice as a prompt to test that pairing now rather than the first time you actually lose something.
