Best Buy is taking US pre-orders for Apple’s touchscreen MacBook Pro with the PROLED XDR display. Its listings add a free $100 Best Buy e-gift card. That is store credit, not a price cut. Best Buy charges the same as Apple: $2,899 for the 14-inch model and $3,399 for the 16-inch. The offer was live when this post was published, and Best Buy could change its terms at any time.
Best Buy MacBook Pro PROLED pricing and availability
We checked Best Buy’s US listings late on October 28, US Eastern time. Three PROLED configurations showed the gift card badge, a November 6 release date and a pre-order button:
- 14-inch, M5 Pro (15-core CPU): 24GB memory, 1TB SSD, Silver, $2,899. Delivery on or shortly after Friday, November 6, with no store pickup listed.
- 16-inch, M5 Pro (18-core CPU): 24GB memory, 1TB SSD, Silver, $3,399. Pickup and delivery on November 6.
- 16-inch, M5 Pro (18-core CPU): 48GB memory, 1TB SSD, Space Black, $3,999. Pickup and delivery on November 6.
MacRumors reports that every configuration qualifies for the gift card, with no Best Buy Plus or Total membership needed. Best Buy’s listing did not spell out either term. We only saw the badge on the three models above, so the M5 Max versions are unconfirmed.
Neither Best Buy’s listing nor MacRumors gave an end date for the offer. Neither set out what happens to the card if you return the laptop. According to MacRumors, most configurations are also up for pre-order at Amazon, with no discount or bonus there yet.
Is the Best Buy gift card worth it?
A $100 gift card only has value if you already shop at Best Buy. If you don’t, the cash price is the same as buying from Apple.
One listing on the same Best Buy page stood out when we checked. A non-touch 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro, 24GB of memory and 2TB of storage was on sale for $2,899. Best Buy showed it as $300 below a $3,199 comparable value. That matches the touch base model’s price, with twice the storage and an 18-core CPU but no touchscreen. Sale prices like that can change quickly.
The touch models cost $400 more than matching non-touch M5 Pro and M5 Max versions. They also use M5-generation chips, as we covered in our MacBook Pro PROLED launch post. Readers in India can check the touchscreen MacBook Pro’s India pricing separately.
