Samsung Says Galaxy Z Fold8 Series Booked 271,000 India Pre-Orders

Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold8 series has set a pre-order record in India, with the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 taking more than 271,000 pre-orders in the 72 hours after their 22 July launch. In its own announcement, the company says last year’s Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 needed about 15 days to reach a comparable figure.

What Samsung published about Galaxy Z Fold8 pre-orders in India

The two numbers Samsung is leading with are the 271,000 pre-orders in 72 hours and the split by geography: 45% of those pre-orders came from tier 2 cities and beyond. Samsung also says it now expects the foldables to match the pre-order volume the Galaxy S26 series managed earlier this year.

JB Park, President and CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia, framed the tier 2 number as the headline finding:

“The overwhelming response to our new Galaxy Z series highlights India’s increasing demand for innovative technologies that enhance productivity and unlock creative potential. These devices, offering personalised Galaxy AI experiences, are not only Made in India but also supported by our robust Indian R&D capabilities tailored to meet the dynamic needs of Indian consumers. With 45% of pre-orders originating from Tier 2 cities and beyond, we are observing the rise of a promising growth market with significant potential.”

Read the pre-order number with the financing attached to it

Samsung’s own release lists, in the same set of bullet points as the record, the offer these pre-orders were placed under: a 30-month, zero-down-payment, no-cost EMI option. That matters for how much the figure actually tells you. A pre-order booked at no upfront cost is a much cheaper commitment than a purchase, so a count gathered under that scheme measures interest and the reach of a financing plan at least as much as it measures demand at the sticker price.

Two further caveats are worth holding onto. The 271,000 is a combined total across three very differently priced phones — the Z Flip8, the Z Fold8 and the Z Fold8 Ultra are not broken out, so the number says nothing about which model India is actually buying. And the “15 days last year” comparison is Samsung’s own internal figure for its own prior launch, not audited or independently checked. None of that makes the record false; it just means it is a marketing disclosure, and the sales figure that would settle the question — units shipped, per model — is not in it.

The tier 2 statistic is the genuinely interesting part, and it lines up with what a 30-month no-cost EMI plan is designed to do: convert a device priced well beyond a metro-only audience into a monthly line item. Samsung has not published India-specific shipment numbers, and the pre-order window figures will not be revisited once deliveries begin, so this release is likely to be the most detail anyone gets. If you are weighing the phones themselves rather than the sales story, our Galaxy Z Fold8 India pricing breakdown has the per-variant figures.
