Samsung has started the official rollout of One UI 9, based on Android 17. The Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra are first in line. The update began rolling out today, September 16, according to a press release from Samsung’s Global Newsroom.
One UI 9 already debuted on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 when those foldables launched. This is the first time it’s reaching Samsung’s numbered flagship line. The update carries the September 2026 security patch and weighs in at roughly 650MB, according to GSMArena, which tracked the rollout starting in South Korea.
What’s new in One UI 9
Samsung’s release leans heavily on Galaxy AI features. My FanCam automatically tracks and reframes a chosen person in a recorded video. It’s useful for kids’ recitals or sports highlights, though it requires a Samsung Account and can’t guarantee accurate results. Now Brief gets generative, editable cards so users can customize what shows up in their daily summary across health, weather, and video.
A new Warranty and Care section lands directly in Settings. Users can now check device warranty status, run self-diagnostics, view repair estimates, and book a Samsung Care+ appointment without leaving the phone. It’s a genuinely useful addition, though Samsung Care+ pricing and eligibility still vary by country.
Now Nudge surfaces contextual suggestions inside everyday tasks. It can offer to save a shared location or pull up reservation details from a text thread, without switching apps. Interpreter adds a Thread View for easier reference in translated conversations, plus faster live translation.
Document Scan now handles curved book pages and folded corners more cleanly. Voice Recorder produces structured summaries with headings and tables instead of a wall of text.
Security: Privacy Alerts and Scam Detection expand
On the privacy side, Security Brief adds alerts for malware, apps installed from unknown sources, and unnecessary permissions directly into Now Brief. Privacy Alerts uses on-device AI to flag apps quietly trying to access permissions in the background.
Samsung’s own footnote lists which devices support Privacy Alerts: Galaxy S26, S26 Ultra, S25, S25 FE, S24, S24 FE, S23, S23 FE, Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, Flip8, Fold7, Flip7, Fold6, Flip6, Fold5, Flip5, Tab S11 Ultra, Tab S11, Tab S10 Ultra, Tab S10 Plus, Tab S9 Ultra, Tab S9 Plus, and Tab S9. That’s a feature-support list, not a One UI 9 eligibility list, and Samsung doesn’t publish the two the same way.
Scam Detection, which screens incoming calls for scam patterns, is expanding to more markets. Samsung’s release specifies: “Scam Detection will be available in Japan, Canada, and India.” That’s the clearest India-specific detail in an otherwise global rollout announcement.
Which phones get One UI 9, and when
Here’s the part Samsung doesn’t spell out. The company’s own release says only this about what comes after the S26 series: “As of the publication of this press release, the official One UI 9 has been rolled out to Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The update is expected to gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices.” There’s no dated device roster attached to today’s announcement.
SamMobile, which has closely tracked the One UI 9 beta program, reports that beta testing is already running on the Galaxy A25, A35, A36, A37, A55, A56, A57, S23, S24, S25, Z Flip 6, Z Flip 7, Z Fold 6, and Z Fold 7. Those devices are expected to get the stable update “in the coming weeks,” per SamMobile. That’s SamMobile’s own inference from the beta program, not a Samsung-confirmed schedule, so treat it as a strong hint rather than a promise.
For now, if you own an S26-series phone, check Settings > Software update for the notification. Everyone else is in the queue, with Samsung offering no fixed dates for when their device will follow.
