Xiaomi announces Mi Smart Upgrade buyback offers in India

Xiaomi has announced some buyback offers for its phones sold in India. The scheme is called Mi Smart Upgrade, and here’s how it works.

Mi Smart Upgrade

What is Mi Smart Upgrade

Xiaomi is offering buyers 40% to 70% discounts, when buyers exchange an eligible Mi or Redmi phone, while purchasing a new handset from the company. You will need to pay an additional sum to buy the Mi Smart Upgrade plan, when you purchase the phone.

What is Mi Smart Upgrade

There are 2 main things to keep in mind here. Firstly, the Mi Smart Upgrade is not available for online purchases. It can only be obtained while purchasing a phone from a Mi Authorised Outlet. The company will send an email and SMS to the buyer regarding the offer details.

You can redeem the buyback offer at anytime between 3 months to 15 months since the purchase date of the phone. Once the device passes the inspection test at Xiaomi’s authorised service center, it has to be submitted to the company, after which you will get a redemption code that can be availed on Mi.com or any Mi Authorised outlet for a discount when purchasing a new phone.

Devices which are over 15 months old, non-working handsets and broken/damaged phones are not eligible for the buyback offer. Xiaomi says that it will deduct Rs. 1000 from the eligible buyback, if the buyer does not provide the original box and charger, and 10% will be deducted in case of minor scratches or dents on the phone.

The bigger catch is that the offer depends on the SRP (Suggested Retail Price) of the phone. The amount can be validated on Mi.com, when you want to exchange the phone.
