iOS 27’s Home app can now write AI summaries of what your security cameras recorded, but how many cameras get that treatment depends on which iCloud+ plan you pay for. Apple’s own iCloud page confirms the gating exists, though it stops short of publishing the exact camera counts per tier.

How iCloud+ Gates AI Camera Summaries
Apple’s page states it plainly: “Some Apple Intelligence features in the Home app, such as video summaries, are available for a limited number of cameras depending on your iCloud+ plan.” Apple confirms the tier prices themselves — 2TB at $9.99 a month, 6TB at $29.99, and 12TB at $59.99. The specific camera counts per tier, though, come from MacRumors’ reporting, not Apple’s own published wording.
According to MacRumors, the 2TB plan gets AI summaries for one camera, the 6TB plan covers two cameras, and only the 12TB plan unlocks summaries for up to five. Apple One Premier subscribers, whose bundle includes 2TB-equivalent storage, are capped at a single camera too.
The Catch Apple Doesn’t Advertise
Here’s the part worth noticing: HomeKit Secure Video, the older recording feature, already offers unlimited cameras once you’re on the 2TB plan or higher. AI video summaries do not get that same treatment at any tier Apple sells.
That’s a meaningful gap for anyone who assumed a higher storage tier meant unrestricted access to Apple Intelligence features. You can pay Apple’s top iCloud+ price and still only get AI summaries for five cameras. Your actual camera footage, meanwhile, keeps recording without limit. The video storage and the AI processing are being sold as two separate scarce resources, not one.
Apple’s own page does note the camera limits are subject to change in the future, so today’s counts aren’t guaranteed to stay fixed. Anyone with a multi-camera Home setup should check how many cameras their current iCloud+ tier actually covers. Don’t assume a plan will summarize footage from every camera you’ve installed.
What This Means for Buyers
If you’re weighing an iCloud+ upgrade specifically for AI camera summaries, count your cameras first. A household running more than five cameras will hit Apple’s ceiling regardless of which plan it buys, since even the $59.99-a-month tier tops out at five.
