One Side Software, will be launching their second game, Super Paper Pool for Android and iOS devices today.

It is not just a billiards game, it combines billiards with a bit of golf.

We got to test the game hands-on before it hits the Play Store and here is our review.

Graphics:

The game features simple yet good graphics including some nice animations. The game environments are set in a starry background and changes from Day/Night as you progress. When you send a target into the goal the piece explodes into colorful confetti.

Gameplay:

The gameplay is quite simple. You can drag the cue stick by swiping up or down while taking aim using the dotted line (sometimes a ghostly cue ball will appear) and then tap on the button to lock the path.  Then you have to use the cue stick to strike the ball and hit the targets and send them to their appropriate goals.

The game scores are similar to Golf, i.e. the number of shots you take to finish each table. So make sure you finish under par to get a good score. And you can’t restart a single table, you have to restart the entire level. But you can use Mulligans to retake a bad shot. You don’t have many though but you can earn some Mulligans by completing tables or buying them via an In app purchase.

There are 3 level packs in the game:

  1. Starlight Mountains
  2. Firefly Farms
  3. Sundown Desert

You can unlock the other level packs by getting a score of “B”or better in the previous level.

There are over  70 tables with more set to arrive in future updates. The game also makes use of Google Play Services for Leaderboards and Achievements. There are 23 achievements in the game which you can accomplish.

Super Paper Pool - Achievements

Pros:

  • Easy to use controls
  • Innovative and challenging puzzles
  • Good animations and use of physics.

Cons:

  • The game could do with a good soundtrack instead of the wind effects. Even the one playing in the main menu is good.
  • Sometimes when you try to strike a ball with the cue stick, you end up dragging elsewhere in the screen and viewing the starry background

Note: The game has ads which you can remove by buying any pack of Mulligans
