Galaxy Watch8 One UI 9 Watch Beta Opens in the US and Korea

Samsung has opened the One UI 9 Watch beta to the Galaxy Watch8 and Galaxy Watch8 Classic in the United States, a day after the programme went live in South Korea. Each region gets its own build — L320XXU2ZZH3 / L320OXM2ZZH3 in Korea, L330XXU2ZZH3 / L330OXM2ZZH3 in the US — which is the clearest confirmation that this is a real second-market rollout rather than the Korean build leaking outwards.

One UI 9 Watch is Samsung’s Wear OS 7 layer. It shipped on the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, and the Watch8 series is the first older generation to get it in testable form — which makes this beta the first hard evidence of how far back the stable rollout will reach.

What the One UI 9 Watch beta includes

  • Download size: roughly 2GB, which is large for a watch and will want a full charge and a while on the pad
  • Security patch: the August 2026 level, bundled with the beta
  • Interface: a reworked UI design and broader watch face customisation
  • Health: expanded Samsung Health tracking, including aerobic load and sleep vitals
  • Safety: new safety tools alongside the existing set

How to join the beta

Enrolment runs through the Samsung Members app in an eligible region, which is the only route Samsung has given for this programme. Korea and the US are the only two markets accepting registrations at the moment. If you are in the UK, India or anywhere else, there is no route in yet; Samsung has historically widened watch betas market by market rather than all at once, though no list of further markets has surfaced as of 28 August.

Which Galaxy watches are in line for One UI 9 Watch

The Watch8 series being in beta is the useful data point here, because Samsung’s watch betas have generally run ahead of the stable eligibility list rather than defining it. The Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 already ship with One UI 9 Watch. The Watch8 and Watch8 Classic are now in testing. Older models are expected to be added to the programme in stages over the coming weeks rather than in one announcement, and no final stable roster has surfaced as of 28 August.

The line worth watching is at the bottom of the range. The Galaxy Watch 4 is out of OS upgrades entirely, which is not a surprise for a 2021 watch, but it does set the reference point: anything from the Watch 5 generation onward should reasonably expect this update, and anyone on a Watch 5 or Watch 6 who does not get an invitation in the next few weeks has a fair question to ask Samsung about how many years of Wear OS upgrades their watch was sold on.

Should you install it?

Probably not, unless you own a second watch. Beta firmware on a wearable is harder to walk back than on a phone — rolling back a watch build usually means a factory reset and re-pairing, and a 2GB early build sitting on a device you rely on for sleep and workout data is a bad trade for seeing a redesigned UI early. If the health tracking is the part you care about, waiting for stable costs you nothing.

The wider One UI 9 picture is still filling in — Samsung’s phone-side beta has reached its sixth build while an official eligibility list for handsets has yet to surface.
