Oppo announces ColorOS 12 based on Android 12; here’s when your device will get it

Oppo has announced the latest iteration of its custom Android skin, ColorOS 12. The new operating system is based on Android 12, and the company claims that it offers an experience close to stock Android.

Without further ado, let’s find out which phones are eligible to get the new firmware.

Devices which will get ColorOS 12 Update

October 2021

Oppo is rolling out the beta version of the Android 12 update for the Oppo Find X3 Pro 5G in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.

November 2021

The next devices that are in line to receive the update will be the Oppo Reno6 Pro 5G, Reno6 Pro Diwali Edition, and Reno6 5G. These phones will get the update from November 2021. According to a roadmap released by the Chinese OEM, ColorOS 12 will also roll out to the Find X2, Find X2Pro, and Find X2 Pro Automobili Lamborghini Edition.

December 2021

Oppo will release the update for these phones by the end of this year: Reno6, Reno5, Reno5 Marvel Edition, Reno6 Z 5G, Reno5 Pro 5G, Reno5 Pro, F19 Pro+, A74 5G and A73 5G.

Q1 and Q2 2022

Here’s the list of phones that will get the ColorOS 12 Update in the first half of 2022.

ColorOS 12 features

Oppo says that ColorOS 12 will bring Material You, i.e. the new dynamic wallpaper-based theming system from Android 12, along with the new Privacy Dashboard, Mic and Camera access indicators, Approximate Location Sharing. The OS ships with the new Quantum Animation Engine featuring 300+ improved animations. The firmware includes optimizations for anti-fragmentation and intelligent resource allocation, which will help keep the system’s ageing rate to as low as 3% in 3 years, with 30% lower memory occupation, and 20% lower battery consumption.

Oppo ColorOS 12 privacy controls

The new OS includes improvements to the camera and will support Ultra Steady Video Shooting, HDR, and Super Wide-Angle. ColorOS 12 adds support for 3-Finger Translate powered by Google Lens. The One-tap power saving mode automatically detects apps that are using excessive battery power and offers you the best battery-saving plan, to help conserve the power. The new OS includes 24 Accessibility options including Color Vision Enhancement, which will adjust colors depending on your vision.

Oppo ColorOS 12 approximate location sharing

Use the Phone Manager to manage your storage, scan for malware, check for permissions, and delete unwanted data.  Oppo’s PC Connect app lets you access your phone from your computer. Create Omojis (avatars) using the operating system’s Facial Capture Algorithms. The Always-On Display mode now lets you add Omojis to your lock screen.

In case you aren’t aware, Oppo and OnePlus have merged the codebase of ColorOS and OxygenOS to bring a new integrated OS. So, we can expect OnePlus devices to get similar features in the upcoming update.
