Google’s September System Update Lets Wallet Adjust Prices Live at Checkout

Google has published its September 2026 Google System Updates, the monthly rundown of changes rolling out quietly through Google Play services, the Play Store, and Android WebView rather than through a full OS update. The headline change this round lets Google Wallet adjust your cart total in real time when you switch payment methods at checkout.

What’s new in Google Play services v26.36

Google Play services v26.36, dated September 14, is the main package in this drop. Per Google’s own release notes, the Wallet team’s entry reads: “Enable real-time cart price adjustments when a user selects or changes their payment method during checkout.” In practice, that means a total shown at checkout can now update instantly if switching cards changes what you owe, instead of leaving you to notice a discrepancy after the fact.

The rest of v26.36 is thinner. Developer Services and Device Connectivity get backend support for Maps-related and connectivity features that app developers will use, not something you will notice directly. Account Management and System Management are listed as bug-fix-only, with no consumer-facing detail given.

Play Store and WebView also updated

Google Play Store v53.2, also dated September 14, adds a “Contribution Hub” cluster to the Store’s “You” tab, where Google says you can submit ratings and reviews while tracking the social impact of your contributions. Android WebView v154, dated September 10, switches its Finch feature-flag system from app-level to device-level consistency and adds unspecified security and privacy improvements.

One holdover from earlier in the month is worth a mention: Play services v26.35, released September 7, added support for physical transit cards and balances in Google Wallet via NFC, plus a new “Add a card” success screen. That followed v26.34’s changes earlier in September, which androidpure covered separately.

Why this update format matters

Unlike a numbered Android version, these system updates ship silently through Play services and the Play Store without asking for a reboot or even a visible download prompt on most phones. They are how Google pushes small functional changes, including ones with real money implications like the Wallet checkout fix, to essentially every Android device at once, regardless of OEM or how far behind a phone is on OS updates.

Google maintains the full monthly history on its own System Release Notes page, so anyone chasing a specific bug fix or missing feature can check whether it landed yet without waiting for a phone-specific OTA.
