Google Pixel Tag Leaks at EUR 39.99 in European Retailer Listings

Google’s first own-brand item tracker has surfaced in European retail systems ahead of the 12 August Made by Google event, and one of the listings carries a price. A Slovenian distributor lists the Google Pixel Tag in a “Fog Light” colour at a recommended retail price of €39.99, with a product barcode and stock ID already assigned. Google has announced nothing, so treat all of this as a leak until 12 August.

What the Google Pixel Tag listings show

Two separate European trade catalogues carry the product. The Slovenian listing at Big Partner files it under smartphones as “Pametni sledilnik GOOGLE Pixel Tag Fog light” — smart tracker — with EAN 840353964334 and the €39.99 recommended price. A German catalogue run by Sharp’s business systems arm lists the same product more tersely as “GOOGLE Tag, Fog Light”. Google’s own model number for it appears as GA12506, with a GA12506-WW worldwide variant.

The Slovenian description, in the retailer’s own marketing language, sets out the basics: it is a compact, lightweight tracker that attaches to keys, a wallet or luggage, locates them through Google’s Find My Device network, and has a loud speaker so you can home in on it once you are close. Retailer copy of this kind is usually lifted from the manufacturer’s own product sheet, which is why these listings tend to be reliable on features and unreliable on everything else.

The first photograph of the hardware was obtained by 9to5Google, which found the listings. 9to5Google describes the hardware as an oblong fob, taller than Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag, rather than the disc shape Apple uses — androidpure has not independently seen the image.

What is still unknown

  • Ultra-wideband — nothing in the listings mentions UWB, the short-range radio that enables precise, arrow-on-screen directional finding. Its absence in a distributor blurb proves nothing either way, but it is the single specification that most determines whether this competes with an AirTag or merely with a cheap Bluetooth fob.
  • Battery — no indication of whether the cell is a user-replaceable coin cell or sealed and rechargeable. A sealed tracker is a disposable one.
  • Mounting — the leaked image appears to show no built-in keyring loop, which would mean buying a case or loop separately.
  • Price and availability outside Europe — €39.99 is one distributor’s recommended figure in one market. Google’s own pricing, and whether the Pixel Tag reaches India or the US at launch, are unannounced.

Why Google building its own tracker matters

Google has run the crowd-sourced Find Hub network for years — rebuilt and renamed from Find My Device — while leaving the hardware to Chipolo, Pebblebee, Motorola and others. A first-party tag changes the incentive. Google now has a reason to make the network genuinely dense and responsive rather than merely present, because it will be selling the object that depends on it. Owners of third-party Find Hub tags should benefit from that, if it happens.

The consumer caution is the one that comes with every tracker, and it is worth saying plainly before the marketing starts: a cheap, silent, network-connected locator is as useful for following a person as it is for finding luggage. Android has unknown-tracker alerts built in, and they work across the Find Hub network, but their value depends on how aggressively Google tunes them and how quickly they fire. If the Pixel Tag is announced on 12 August, the anti-stalking behaviour deserves as much attention in the reviews as the range figures.

Google’s event is scheduled for 12 August, where the Pixel 11 series is expected alongside the Pixel Watch 5 and new Pixel Buds. A tracker fits that stage neatly, but Google has not confirmed the product exists.
