Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 865 and 765 mobile platforms with 5G connectivity

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and 765 mobile platforms have been announced today. The chipsets support 5G connectivity, but will also be available in a regular, i.e., non-5G variant for affordable devices.

What’s new in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and 765 ?

The processors will be equipped with the latest Snapdragon X55 Modem-RF System to offer high speeds.

One new feature in the 2 SoCs is the 3D Sonic Max Fingerprint Technology, which is an upgraded version of the company’s sensor. This will offer a 17x larger area for recognition, is faster, and supports two-finger authentication.

Qualcomm says that the new chipsets will be used in phones which launch in 2020. Vodafone and Verizon are the first mobile carriers to support certification for the SoCs, with more carriers expected to jump onboard soon.

Upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and 765 phones

Xiaomi’s co-founder Bin Lin, confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi 10 which will be announced in Q1 2020, will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G processor.

The Redmi K30 which is set to be announced on December 10th in China, will be the first phone to be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 5G processor.

Motorola has declared that it aims to reenter the premium flagship segment with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G and 765 5G mobile platforms.

OPPO is set to announce a flagship 5G phone powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G chip in the first quarter of the new year.

Nokia’s Juho Sarvikas confirmed that the company will cater to the affordable-premium phone market, by launching devices with the Snapdragon 765 SoC.

The full tech specs of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and 765 have not been released yet. Stay tuned to Androidpure and we’ll update you when we get more information about the processors.
