Xiaomi Pocophone could be a budget friendly flagship

Yesterday, we reported that the Xiaomi Poco sub-brand has been confirmed. Today, the company’s Lead Product Manager for India, Jai Mani, has posted a note which hints that the Xiaomi Pocophone could be a budget friendly flagship.

The note highlights the current market trend, which has devices priced at $1000 for flaghsip phones, and that the Poco brand has been created to combat this.

So, does this mean that the Xiaomi Pocophone will be something to compete with OnePlus? Well, that’s what we can take from that note.

Also, we already know the Pocophone’s technical specifications, so we think the device will be priced very aggressively, at least in India. Here is a recap of the tech specs, in case you missed it.

The Xiaomi Pocophone F1 runs on MIUI 10 (which we feel kind of defeats the entire purpose), and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. The phone has dual rear cameras with a 12MP sensor and a 5MP sensor. The selfie lens is a 20MP lens. The device will be backed by a 4,000 mAh battery, and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. The phone has a notch display design, and will feature IR Face Unlock powered by AI.

Here are some more pictures of the device and its package, leaked by our own Avinash. Look at the photo of the leaked Xiaomi Pocophone retail box, the colour matches that in the note by Mani. So, it may be the real deal.

Also worth noting, is that Manu Kumar Jain, the Head of Xiaomi India, had recently mentioned in an interview, that the company plan’s to launch a flagship device in India.
