Samsung Galaxy Card Launches in the US: Its First Credit Card

Samsung has launched the Samsung Galaxy Card, its first-ever credit card, in the United States. Announced on July 20, the card is issued by Barclays US Consumer Bank, runs on the Visa network, and is built to live inside Samsung Wallet — putting Samsung squarely in the same lane as Apple Card. Applications open July 22, the same day as Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event.

One thing to be clear about up front: this is a US-only product. There is no announced rollout for India, the EU, or any other market, so readers outside the US should treat this as a look at where Samsung is heading rather than something to sign up for today.

Rewards and Fees: What the Samsung Galaxy Card Actually Pays

The Samsung Galaxy Card carries a $0 annual fee, and Samsung is leading its marketing with a headline “5% cash rewards” figure. Read the fine print, though, and that top rate is narrower than it sounds — it only applies to purchases you make directly with Samsung. The rewards tiers break down like this:

  • 5% cash rewards: Samsung direct purchases (Samsung.com and Samsung retail stores)
  • 3% cash rewards: purchases made through Samsung Wallet
  • 2% cash rewards: eligible streaming services (Netflix, Disney+, Spotify)
  • 1% cash rewards: everything else

In other words, the best reward rate is really an incentive to spend more inside Samsung’s own ecosystem — a new Galaxy phone, tablet, or TV bought from Samsung — not a broad, no-strings reward on your everyday spending. Everything outside Samsung and a handful of streaming apps earns the same 1% you would get from plenty of other flat-rate cards.

There are two sign-up sweeteners. New cardholders can earn a $200 welcome bonus in cash rewards after spending $2,000 within the first 90 days of opening the account, and buying a Samsung VIP Advantage membership with the card gets you a 20% discount on it.

Samsung Wallet Integration

The card’s real purpose is to deepen Samsung Wallet. Once you’re approved, the Samsung Galaxy Card is instantly provisioned into Samsung Wallet for tap-to-pay, with the physical card shipping separately. It slots into the same app that already holds payment cards, passes, IDs, and digital keys.

“Samsung Galaxy Card is part of our ongoing vision for Samsung Wallet to deliver more connected and rewarding everyday experiences,” said Woncheol Chai, EVP and Head of the Digital Wallet Team, Samsung Electronics.

Worth knowing before you tap: using this card ties your spending activity into Samsung Wallet and your Samsung account. That’s standard for a wallet-linked card — Apple Card works the same way through Apple Wallet — so it’s a structural fact to be aware of rather than a unique red flag, but it is part of what Samsung gets out of issuing a card in the first place.

The Card Itself, and How It Stacks Up Against Apple Card

The physical Samsung Galaxy Card is black metal, made from recycled steel. That’s a deliberate visual answer to the white titanium Apple Card, and the comparison doesn’t stop at the finish. Apple Card pays 3% on Apple purchases and select merchants, 2% on Apple Pay purchases, and 1% on everything else; Samsung’s headline rate goes higher at 5% on Samsung’s own purchases, with 3% through Samsung Wallet and 1% elsewhere. On paper Samsung’s top tier beats Apple’s — as long as your spending is pointed at Samsung.

Key details

  • Issuer: Barclays US Consumer Bank
  • Network: Visa
  • Annual fee: $0
  • Rewards: 5% Samsung purchases, 3% Samsung Wallet, 2% streaming (Netflix, Disney+, Spotify), 1% everything else
  • Welcome bonus: $200 after $2,000 spent in the first 90 days
  • Design: black metal, recycled steel; instant provisioning to Samsung Wallet, physical card ships separately

How to Apply, and the Terms Samsung Didn’t Publish

Applications open July 22, 2026 at Samsung.com, with full terms hosted at Barclaycardus.com. Before you apply, though, notice what Samsung’s own announcement leaves out: the two numbers that actually decide whether this card is a good deal for you. There is no APR (the interest rate you pay if you carry a balance) and no stated credit-score or approval bar anywhere in Samsung’s release. Those terms are governed by Barclays.

“No annual fee” is not the whole cost picture — if you ever carry a balance, the APR is what matters most, and right now that figure isn’t in front of you. Check the real terms at Barclaycardus.com before applying, not just Samsung’s marketing.

Stepping back, the card fits a bigger Samsung story: a push to build recurring revenue around services and Wallet rather than leaning entirely on hardware, at a time when its mobile division is under real financial pressure. A branded credit card keeps users inside the Samsung ecosystem and, ideally for Samsung, spending more of their money there.
