Every major US carrier is pitching a free or near-free Pixel 11 this week, and every one of those offers is paid back over three years of service you have to keep buying. T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T all opened Pixel 11 pre-orders on 12 August ahead of the 20 August ship date, and the headline retail prices of $899 to $1,899 mean the headline discounts are real — up to $1,300 off at T-Mobile, up to $1,100 at Verizon. The mechanism behind them is the part worth reading before you tap through.
What the Pixel 11 carrier deals actually cost
None of these are discounts. They are monthly bill credits, which means the carrier charges you full retail for the phone on an installment plan and then hands the money back in slices, one bill at a time, for 36 months. Stop the service, switch carriers, or pay the phone off early and the remaining credits stop with it — you keep the phone and the balance.
T-Mobile spells this out in its own terms: contact the carrier before cancelling to continue remaining bill credits, or credits stop and the balance on the required finance agreement comes due, and bill credits end if you pay the device off early. That last clause is the one people miss. Paying down a loan early is normally the responsible move; here it is the expensive one.
Then there is the service floor. T-Mobile’s $1,300 Pixel 11 Pro XL offer requires qualifying service of $100 or more a month with AutoPay, plus taxes and fees, and a trade-in. Held for the full 36 months, that is at least $3,600 of service to unlock $1,300 of phone. The $1,100 Pixel 11 Pro tier and the $900 Pixel 11 tier come down to $85-plus plans, but the structure is identical.
Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T, tier by tier
- T-Mobile: up to $1,300 off the Pixel 11 Pro XL on Experience Beyond 2.0 or Go5G Next with a trade-in in any condition; up to $1,100 off the Pixel 11 Pro; up to $900 off the Pixel 11 on most plans including Essentials 2.0. All via up to 36 monthly bill credits. Switchers get $100 back on a virtual prepaid Mastercard that expires in six months and has no cash access.
- Verizon: up to $1,100 off with an eligible trade-in when you add a new line, or up to $900 for existing customers on myPlan — both over 36 months of promotional credits. The trade-in phone must have been active on the account for at least 60 days first, which quietly rules out buying a cheap donor handset to cash in.
- Verizon Simplicity: a Pixel 11 Pro 256GB at $45 a month covering phone and plan, but across 48 months, with AutoPay, paper-free billing and a number ported in from another carrier. Cancel early and the future phone credits go away.
- AT&T: multiple outlets report a free Pixel 11 Pro for new and existing customers trading in any Google Pixel, any year, any condition, on a higher-tier plan. AT&T’s own terms pages blocked repeated attempts to load them, so we are not printing credit amounts or plan minimums we could not read for ourselves.
The no-strings option people forget
Google’s own store is offering $200 in Google Store credit with a Pixel 11 Pro or Pro XL (or $250 off a Pixel Watch 5 instead), on top of an instant trade-in credit applied as a discount at checkout — the Pro listing drops to $499 from $1,099 with an eligible trade-in, so up to $600. That is less than $1,300 — but it lands immediately, carries no plan minimum, no port-in, no 36-month leash, and leaves the phone unlocked and yours on day one.
The honest comparison is not $1,300 versus $200. It is $1,300 spread thinly across three years of a plan you must not downgrade, against $200 you can take today and walk. If you were already going to spend $100 a month on that carrier for the next three years, the trade-in deal is genuinely good value. If you were not, the carriers have just sold you a plan and thrown in a phone.
