Google Fi is offering 75% off any Unlimited plan for 12 months, which brings Unlimited Essentials down to $9 a month from $35. There’s a catch that the $9 headline hides. The deal is a Google Play exclusive for select customers, and you can’t unlock it just by visiting Google Fi’s website.
How to actually get the Google Fi $9 plan
The discount depends on a promo code. According to Google Fi’s own offer page, the code is applied automatically only when you arrive from a promotional banner inside Google Play. Google also says the deal is for select customers only.
That means searching for the offer and landing on fi.google.com won’t get you the discount. If you haven’t been shown the banner in the Play Store, you probably aren’t in the targeted group. The offer page doesn’t explain how Google picks who sees the banner.
If you do get the code, there are a few more conditions:
- New accounts only: Existing Fi customers aren’t eligible.
- Bring your own phone: The deal only applies when you bring your own phone to Fi.
- Activate within 30 days: Your line must be active within 30 days of getting the code.
- Deadline: The code must be redeemed by September 29, 2026, 11:59 PM PST.
Google Fi Unlimited promo pricing
All three Unlimited tiers get the same 75% discount for 12 months:
- Unlimited Essentials: $9/month (regularly $35)
- Unlimited Standard: $13/month (regularly $50)
- Unlimited Premium: $17/month (regularly $65)
The $9 Essentials price is rounded up. Google’s terms put the exact figure at $8.75 a month.
The fine print that matters
The discount arrives as monthly bill credits, not a lower plan price. After 12 months, your bill goes back to the standard rate. For Essentials, that’s a jump from about $9 to $35.
Google markets the plan with the promise that you can cancel anytime. But the terms also say switching plans or devices before the 12 months end voids your remaining credits. So you’re free to leave, but changing your setup mid-year costs you the discount. Pick the tier you’ll want for the whole year before you sign up.
If you’re already a Fi customer, or you never saw the Play Store banner, this deal isn’t for you. For eligible new users bringing their own phone, it’s a cheap way to try Fi for a year. Just budget for the full price in month 13.
