T-Mobile and AT&T are advertising the Galaxy Z Fold8 free with an eligible trade-in and a qualifying plan — the consumer headline for US pre-orders this week. The Fold8 Ultra lands around $200 under the same style of $1,900 bill-credit promos. Phones ship August 7, 2026. Unlocked list prices remain steep ($1,899.99 Fold8 / $2,099.99 Ultra / $1,199.99 Flip8), so the carrier path is what most buyers will actually compare.
What “free” actually requires
None of these are unlocked $0 walk-outs. The same traps show up on every network:
- Trade-in value gates the credit — a recent Galaxy flagship can hit the max; a cracked mid-ranger often will not
- Top-tier plans (e.g. T-Mobile Experience Beyond / Go5G Next) are required for the deepest discounts
- Credits stretch 24–48 months — leave early and credits usually stop while remaining device balance can come due
- Tax is typically charged on the pre-credit retail price at sale
T-Mobile and AT&T (the strongest paper offers)
Per T-Mobile’s July 22 newsroom post, $1,900 off Fold8 or Fold8 Ultra with eligible trade-in on Experience Beyond or Go5G Next is the path to Fold8 “on Us” or Ultra near $200 (24 monthly bill credits). Flip8 is up to $1,100 off on listed plans. Watch9 40mm and Watch Ultra2 have separate wearable-plan promos.
AT&T matches the free-Fold8 / ~$200 Ultra framing with eligible trade-in and up to $1,900 off Ultra. Flip8 discounts are a bit thinner than T-Mobile’s (up to $1,000 off in AT&T’s write-up). Switching buyers may also see phone-balance payoff offers — always check current fine print.
Verizon in brief
Verizon’s preorder post is smaller on pure “on us” headlines: promotional credits over 36–48 months on Simplicity or Unlimited Plus/Ultimate with trade-in or new lines, not the same $1,900 Fold8 wipe. Prefer Verizon only if plan cost and structure matter more than the maximum phone discount.
