Apple plans to update three iPads in the first half of 2027, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports. The list is the entry-level iPad, an iPad Air with an OLED screen and an iPad Pro with vapor chamber cooling. After those, Gurman expects no new iPads in the second half of 2027. Apple hasn’t confirmed any of it, so treat this as a report, not a roadmap.
The report lands a week after Apple launched the OLED iPad mini with the A20 Pro chip. Pictured below is the current iPad Air, which Apple launched with the M4 chip in March 2026.

OLED iPad Air: the biggest change
Both the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air would move from a 60Hz LCD to an OLED panel, according to the report. GSMArena points to an earlier report that Samsung Display will supply those panels. No chip has been confirmed for the new Air.
iPad Pro with vapor chamber cooling
The next iPad Pro would add a vapor chamber to help it sustain performance under long, heavy workloads. GSMArena links this model to an M6 chip, citing Gurman’s earlier reporting from October 2025.
Entry-level iPad: a bigger spec jump
The cheapest iPad is also due for an update. GSMArena reports that Apple’s own code points to an A19 chip and 8GB of RAM for it. The current 2025 model uses an A16 chip with 6GB. The same code reportedly references Apple’s N1 networking chip with Wi-Fi 7 and a C1X modem. Apple hasn’t confirmed any of these specs.
Should you wait for the 2027 iPads?
If the report holds, a new iPad Air and iPad Pro are months away. Anyone set on an OLED Air should wait, since the current model still uses an LCD. Entry-level buyers may also want to hold off, given the reported jump to 8GB of RAM. Gurman’s timelines can slip, though, so a pressing need is a good reason to buy now.
If you plan to trade in an older tablet, Apple recently raised its US trade-in values for every iPad.
