Google has set a firm date for the first Googlebook pre-orders: Monday, September 21, at 9 a.m. ET. The news came through an email Google sent to users who signed up for updates on the platform, reported by 9to5Google, rather than through a public blog post.

Pre-orders open through the Google Store, with the first wave of devices coming from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. That lines up with androidpure’s own earlier coverage of Google’s in-person Googlebook media preview, also scheduled for today in New York. Google still hasn’t said what the pre-order-to-shipping gap will look like, though 9to5Google expects the devices to ship before the holiday shopping season.
Pricing and the operating system’s final public name are both still undisclosed. Google has been referring to the platform only as “Googlebook” so far; the actual OS name, which reporting suggests merges elements of ChromeOS and Android, is expected to surface around the pre-order window or the media event.
The teaser detail: Magic Pointer
Today’s email teaser highlights something Google is calling the Magic Pointer, which gives immediate access to Gemini and animates into a light bar that’s expected to be a signature design element across every Googlebook. Google hasn’t published details on what the light bar will actually do beyond that animation.
Googlebooks were first previewed in May 2026 at The Android Show I/O Edition, and androidpure has tracked device leaks from Acer, Asus, and Lenovo in the months since, including a leaked Lenovo Googlebook 15 spec sheet and an Asus Googlebook CX9406 Bluetooth SIG filing. September 21 is the first time Google has committed to a concrete date for the public to actually order one.
