Motorola launched the Moto G Max in India today at Rs 27,999, and buyers should know upfront that it is not the same phone as the Moto G Max sold in Brazil since June. The name matches. Much of the hardware underneath does not, and almost every difference runs in the Indian model’s favour in exactly one place — the battery — while going the other way nearly everywhere else.
The Moto G Max India model is a different phone from the Brazilian one
The Brazilian Moto G Max is a rebadged Moto G87 running a MediaTek Dimensity 6400. The Indian version swaps that out for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 4. The rear main camera drops from 200MP to a 50MP Sony LYTIA 600 sensor. Memory goes from a range topping out at 12GB RAM and 512GB storage down to a single 6GB/128GB configuration with no higher tier to move up to. The display is smaller. Even the radio stack is older: Bluetooth 5.1 here against Bluetooth 5.4 there, and there is no NFC at all, though FM radio survives.
What India does get is the battery. The 7,000mAh cell is 1,800mAh larger than the Brazilian model’s, which is a genuinely large gap and the one place this version is clearly the better buy. Charging is unchanged at 30W, and the retail box includes a 33W adapter.
At Rs 27,999, that trade is worth thinking about carefully. A 6GB/128GB, no-NFC phone with a lower-midrange Snapdragon is a lot of money in a market where that budget buys considerably more silicon elsewhere, and there is no higher configuration to step up to if 6GB of RAM starts to feel tight. The battery is real and the durability ratings are real. The rest of the sheet is priced optimistically.
Motorola India’s managing director, T.M. Narasimhan, said in the launch statement that the company has “brought together a premium design and luxurious satin finish with powerful photography, exceptional battery life, smooth performance and durability, creating a smartphone that is designed to complement today’s dynamic lifestyles.” The battery half of that holds up. “Powerful photography” is doing heavy lifting for a 50MP main sensor and an 8MP ultrawide.

Two OS upgrades on a phone shipping with Android 16 means it stops at Android 18 — a commitment that looks thin next to what several competitors now promise at this price, and worth weighing if you keep phones for more than a couple of years.
