Motorola has launched the Moto Pad 70 Groove in India, an entertainment-first Android tablet built around a nine-unit JBL speaker array, a 12.1-inch 2.5K 120Hz screen and a 10,200mAh battery. It goes on sale on 7 August — a day before the standard Moto Pad 70 — in a single 8GB/256GB configuration and a single PANTONE Blue Surf finish.

There is a discrepancy worth flagging before you budget for this one. Motorola’s own India store lists the 8GB + 256GB Moto Pad 70 Groove at ₹38,999, while the launch price being quoted across coverage is ₹36,999, with a ₹3,000 bank discount on select cards bringing the effective price to ₹33,999. The most likely reading is ₹38,999 as the list price and ₹36,999 as the introductory one, but Motorola has not spelled that out. Check the actual cart total on 7 August rather than the headline figure.

The pitch here is audio. Motorola has fitted nine JBL Pro speaker units — four tweeters, three woofers and two passive radiators — with Dolby Atmos, and the tablet doubles as a standalone Bluetooth speaker. The rest of the hardware is solidly mid-range rather than flagship, with an LCD panel rather than OLED and a Dimensity 7400 doing the work.

Where it falls short
Two things deserve scrutiny at this price. The first is the charging figure. Motorola advertises “68W charging” and lists a 68W adapter, but its own spec sheet never states what the tablet actually draws, and reporting from GSMArena and FoneArena puts that at 45W. Advertising the adapter rather than the charging rate is a distinction Motorola should be making clearly, and it is not. The second, and the more consequential one, is software support. Two OS upgrades on a tablet launching in August 2026 means the Moto Pad 70 Groove stops receiving new Android versions at Android 18 — likely sometime in 2028 — on a device people will realistically keep for five or six years, because that is what happens with a big screen used for video. A ₹36,999 tablet with a two-year OS horizon is asking buyers to accept a shorter useful life than the hardware deserves.
If the speaker array delivers, this is a specific and reasonable purchase for someone who watches a lot on a tablet. It is not a general-purpose recommendation at this price, and the software commitment is the reason.
