The Asus Pad (T3201) has launched in India, priced at Rs. 45,990 for the 8GB + 128GB model and Rs. 49,990 for the 8GB + 256GB version. It is a 12.2-inch Android 16 tablet built around a 2.8K 144Hz OLED panel, a MediaTek Dimensity 8300 and a 9,000mAh battery, and it goes on sale on 6 August.

The display is the centrepiece. Asus uses a dual-layer (tandem) OLED panel at 2800 x 1840 in a 3:2 ratio, which is squarer than the 16:10 shape most Android tablets use and noticeably better suited to documents, PDFs and split-screen work than to widescreen video. It runs at 144Hz, is rated at 600 nits typical with 2,000 nits peak for HDR, supports Dolby Vision and covers 100% of DCI-P3.

Asus lists no cellular variant and no bundled stylus for the India launch, so this is a Wi-Fi tablet aimed at home and desk use.
The question Asus has not answered
At close to Rs. 50,000, the specification sheet is competitive — a tandem OLED and a 9,000mAh battery are things you normally pay considerably more for. What is missing is a software commitment. Asus ships the tablet on Android 16, and neither the Asus Pad (T3201) product page nor its tech specs page states how many Android version upgrades or how many years of security patches the tablet will receive.
That silence matters more on a tablet than on a phone, because tablets get kept longer. Rival brands in this bracket publish multi-year numbers for their tablets, and a buyer comparing spec sheets at this price can see exactly how long those devices are supported. Even a published promise deserves reading closely — as Samsung’s Galaxy A37 owners have just found out, a six-year commitment can quietly become a quarterly one. Until Asus publishes any figure at all, the honest answer for the Pad (T3201) is that nobody outside Asus knows — and that is worth weighing against the panel. Anyone buying on 6 August should ask the question at the point of sale rather than assume.
