A report has emerged from a South Korean news outlet which suggests that Samsung will be discontinuing its flagship Note series. The S Pen stylus will instead be made available with its other flagship devices.

Aju News quotes a Samsung official, who told it that the company has decided to announce the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in June 2021. The foldable phone will come with the S Pen, as will the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.

The stylus was the selling point of the Note series, and with the S Pen being available in the mainline series, the company seems to have come to a decision to end the lineup. Apart from the stylus, the Galaxy Note series was also quite popular for its boxy design as opposed to the curved screens of the S series. But a foldable device with a stylus could offer a tablet-like experience.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is also said to be equipped with an under-display camera (UDC), which is literally placed beneath the screen. The report also claims that Samsung adopted the UDC design after rejecting a pop-up camera design. It remains unclear if the UDC lens will make it to the final product due to some technical issues, the device is in its final phase of testing.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 series will be announced in January 2021, so we don’t have to wait too long to see if the Ultra will come with the S Pen.
