Mozilla Fenix is an upcoming browser based on Kotlin

Are you a fan of Firefox? If so, you may be interested in the new Mozilla Fenix.

It is an upcoming browser for mobile devices, which the non-profit organization is working on. The browser is not yet ready, but a commit for the same can be found on GitHub.

Mozilla Fenix is based on Kotlin, which is one of the supported programming languages on Android. In fact, it is included in the Android Studio IDE, and is widely considered by many as the replacement for the now ancient Java.

Why the name Mozilla Fenix?

Fenix is the French spelling of Phoenix, which as you may know is a mythical bird which rises from its own ashes. Mozilla probably went with the name symbolically, deriving it from Fennec, which happens to be the code name of the current mobile version of Firefox. Fenix is likely being worked on from scratch in the new platform, while retaining features from Firefox. That’s just our guess, of course.

The news about Fenix was spotted on the Firefox reddit sub, and has become a top post. In fact, a Mozilla employee named Tyler, dropped a strong hint with the words “The mystery deepens”.

But, we managed to confirm that Fenix is indeed a new browser, when we checked the pages at the commit. The issues listed there are clearly related to a mobile browser, have a look.

The GitHub commit also quotes Stephen Hawking,

Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet.

Also included there, is a link for a YouTube video of the song Rize Of The Fenix by Tenacious D, which was accompanied by lyrics to another song.

Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding! Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding! Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding! What the fox say? ?

We wonder what features the new browser will have. What does the fox say?
