Redmi 3 official

The Redmi 3 sports a 5-inch  720p HD display, and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun had confirmed earlier on Weibo, that the device (also known as the Hongmi 3), offers a great performance compared to its predecessor, the Redmi 2 which had a Snapdragon 410 SoC.

The phone comes with 16GB of internal storage. The Redmi 3 supports dual SIM card slots, one of which is a Hybrid Nano SIM card slot, which can optionally be used for expandable storage up 128GB with a microSD. The other SIM slot is for a micro SIM card. The device supports 4G LTE networks,  Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi, GPS/AGPS/Glonass, Infrared, micro USB 2.0.

The Redmi 3 features a 13 megapixel rear camera with a 0.1s ultra-fast PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus), with an f/2.0 aperture, LED Flash, HDR, manual mode, 1080p FHD video recording.  The device has a 5 megapixel front camera with an f/2.2 aperture and 1080p FHD video recording. The phone is backed by a massive 4100 mAh battery. The device has full metal body with a diamond pattern and measures at 139.3 X 69.6 X 8.5 mm, and weighs at 144g.

The Redmi 3 has been priced at 699 Yuan RMB ( approx Rs 7000 or $107). Xiaomi will start selling the phone from Mi.com in China, from January 12th (from 10am). The company is expected to unveil its flagship the Xiaomi Mi 5, in the second week of February, after the Chinese New Year.

The device looks better than the Mi4i (apart fom the display resolution), but that’s a good trade-off for the bigger battery, expandable memory and a newer SoC. And since the Redmi 3 sports a Qualcomm chipset, it is sure to launch in India as well.

Xiaomi has announced that the device has been launched in China, and the sale begins from tomorrow. The article has been updated to reflect it.
