The Redmi 17 5G arrives in India on 3 September with a bigger battery than the version Xiaomi sells everywhere else — 7,900mAh, which GSMArena puts at 400mAh more than the global model announced earlier this month. Redmi India has been posting teasers for the phone, and between them they have already given away most of the spec sheet. The one thing still missing is the number that decides whether any of it matters: the price.
What the Redmi 17 5G India teasers have confirmed
The India variant runs the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 as the global model, with a 120Hz display and a 50MP main camera in what Xiaomi is calling the “Astral Camera Deco” module — a dual-camera setup, per FoneArena. Charging is 45W wired, with 22.5W reverse wired charging so the phone can top up earbuds or a second device off its own cell.

Pricing and availability
Pricing and the full set of RAM and storage configurations will be announced at the 3 September event itself. Sales will run through Amazon.in, mi.com and offline retail once the launch is done. No pre-reservation offer has been announced in the teaser posts.
That gap is the whole story for a phone in this class. A 7,900mAh cell and a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 tell you almost nothing on their own — a budget Redmi lives or dies on where it lands against the competition, and Xiaomi is holding that back until the last minute. Anyone tempted to pre-decide on the battery figure should wait the four days.
The battery arms race in India’s budget tier
An extra 400mAh for India is not a coincidence. Every major brand is now competing on cell size in this segment, and Xiaomi’s own group is doing it twice in the same week: Poco brings the X8 and X8 Power to India on 4 September with 9,000mAh and 10,000mAh batteries respectively, one day after the Redmi 17 5G. Against that, a 7,900mAh phone is not even the biggest battery Xiaomi will have launched in India that week.
The number that will actually decide how the Redmi 17 5G feels to live with is the one nobody markets: 45W into 7,900mAh is not fast for a cell that size, so expect the trade-off for the endurance to be long charging sessions. Xiaomi’s teasers also do not state how many Android version upgrades the phone gets, which on a budget Redmi is worth asking about at the launch rather than assuming.
