Vivo has launched the X500 series in China, and the headline isn’t just the phones themselves — it’s the chip inside the top two models. The X500 Pro and Pro Max are the first phones anywhere to ship with MediaTek’s new 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro, a debut that matters well beyond this one launch, since Dimensity 9600-series silicon tends to show up in global flagships from several brands within months.
Three models launched at the Shanghai event: the standard X500, the X500 Pro, and a new top-tier X500 Pro Max. All three run OriginOS 7 on Android 17 out of the box.

What’s Actually New
The standard X500 runs MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600M, a 6.59-inch 1.5K 144Hz flat display, a 7,500mAh battery, and 90W wired/40W wireless charging. It pairs a 1/1.28-inch Sony LYTIA-828 main sensor with a LYTIA-610 telephoto, both stabilized to CIPA 5.5.
The Pro and Pro Max step up to the new Dimensity 9600 Pro and a BOE Q11 display panel vivo says supports true 1-nit minimum brightness at the hardware level. The Pro Max’s 6.85-inch panel is the larger of the two, alongside an 8,000mAh battery — vivo’s biggest yet — and 4K240/8K video recording. Its main camera uses Sony’s new LYTIA 910 sensor (vivo brands it BlueImage 900), which vivo claims delivers “true 17 EV ultra-high dynamic range,” a marketing figure that hasn’t been independently measured yet and should be read as vivo’s own claim rather than a confirmed spec. The Pro Max’s telephoto is a 200MP unit with 3.5x optical zoom, matching the tele lens on last year’s X300 Ultra. The Pro and Pro Max are also vivo’s first phones to support eSIM, running dual physical SIM plus dual eSIM.
vivo sells optional ZEISS-branded teleconverter lenses (¥999–¥1,999) and an imaging grip accessory (¥699) alongside the phones, aimed at the same photography-first buyer the X-series has chased since the X300 generation.
What It Means Outside China
Coverage from the launch event floor is direct about the gap here: there’s no confirmed timeline for international sales or international pricing. Given vivo’s pattern with the X300 series, a global or India variant — likely under a different name or trim — is a reasonable expectation within the next several months, but nothing is official yet. What is confirmed today is that the Dimensity 9600 Pro now exists in a shipping phone, which is the detail worth watching if you’re waiting on a 2027 flagship from any brand that uses MediaTek silicon.
