Quick Share Is Coming to Android and iOS Apps With a 2027 SDK

Google plans to release a Quick Share SDK in the first half of 2027. It will let Android and iOS apps build Quick Share’s peer-to-peer file sending, and Tap to Share, directly into the app.

Today, sharing a file from an app usually means a trip through the system share sheet, then Quick Share’s full-screen interface. With the SDK, developers could keep that exchange inside their own app. That includes apps on iPhones.

Google announced the plan at Android Dev Summit 2026, in a session titled Enabling seamless cross-device interactions. 9to5Google and Android Authority both reported the first-half 2027 timing and the iOS support.

What the Quick Share SDK changes for users

In apps that adopt the SDK, Quick Share will open as a bottom sheet with a preview of the files being sent, 9to5Google reports. You’d stay in the app you were already using rather than being handed off to another screen.

Support for iOS apps matters too. Developers could offer the same in-app sharing on both platforms, instead of building it only for Android.

Google’s claims: encrypted, offline and uncompressed

Google made several promises about how the SDK will work, as relayed by 9to5Google:

  • Encryption: transfers are end-to-end encrypted between the two devices.
  • Connection: the SDK handles hotspot creation and uses Wi-Fi Direct on supported devices.
  • Quality: photos and videos don’t need to be compressed.
  • Offline use: sharing works without a cellular network.
  • Cost: developers don’t need expensive server infrastructure.

These are Google’s descriptions, and nobody outside Google can test them until the SDK ships. If they hold up, direct device-to-device transfers would keep your files off third-party servers and save mobile data.

It all depends on app developers

There’s no public Quick Share SDK yet, and Google says it’s due in the first half of 2027. Even then, you’ll only see in-app Quick Share where developers choose to add it. Which apps will do so is still unknown.

Quick Share is spreading in other ways meanwhile. Galaxy A56 and A57 can now AirDrop to iPhones with One UI 9. A free Quick Share photo backup to Windows PCs is also on the way.
