Contra was a very popular side-scrolling shoot-’em-up platformer in the 80s and early 90s.
The iOS version from PunchBox was released in June this year and now they have brought us the Android version,
Bill “Mad Dog” Rizer and Lance “Scorpion” Bean are back in the Classic game. Yay!
And guess what? They are not alone this time. Two female characters have been added to the game.
Meet Ricci “Flame Rose” Erica and Sally “Moonshadow” Inohara
Ricci performs well with her Double Guns while Sally prefers the Deadly Shurikens. You can unlock the two by playing the game and earning medals.
Controls:
There are 3 control schemes available in the game:
- A Fixed D-Pad
- A Movable D-Pad
- Classic setup
I tested the Fixed D-Pad and the controls are very smooth. You can disable the autofire option from this menu to make the game more challenging.
Gameplay:
The game two modes An Arcade Mode and A mission mode. You do not earn experience during mission modes, but you can earn medals to unlock the characters.
IAPs:
The game comes with optional In-App Purchases for Gold coins, Gems, Bullets, Experience, extra lives. And they are a bit pricey too. Ouch! But as I said, they are optional.
The good news is you get some rewards as a Daily Bonus. So make sure you collect them everyday.
