Google Confirms a Fix for the Pixel 11 Video Boost Static Bug

Google has gone on the record about the static in Pixel 11 Video Boost recordings, and says a fix is written and waiting to ship. In a statement given to 9to5Google, the company said: “We have identified the cause and developed a software fix that will rollout to users in the coming weeks via the Camera app. Additionally, further performance optimizations will be included in an upcoming monthly Android update.”

What the Pixel 11 Video Boost bug does

Video Boost is the Pro-only feature that uploads a clip to Google’s servers after you record it. Cloud processing then returns an improved version. On the Pixel 11 Pro series, that returned file has been coming back with bursts of static in the audio, repeating every few seconds. We covered the first wave of owner reports and the workarounds people found in late August.

The bug matters more than a normal audio glitch because of when it strikes. Video Boost processing happens after the moment has passed. You do not hear the static while filming, so there is no chance to reshoot. By the time the boosted file lands, whatever you were recording is over.

Two fixes, two different timelines

Google’s statement splits the repair in two. The actual bug fix comes through a Google Camera app update, which is the faster path because it does not wait for a system release. The “further performance optimizations” ride along with a later monthly Android update instead.

Neither has a date. “In the coming weeks” is as specific as Google has been, and the out-of-cycle September security update that reached the Pixel 11 series on 1 September does not appear to be it. That update carries a generic changelog and no mention of the camera.

What to do until then

Owners have reported two things that help. Clearing the Google Camera app’s cache seems to reduce the problem for some, and turning Audio Zoom off is the other lever people have found. Neither is an official Google recommendation, and neither is a guaranteed fix.

The blunt option is to leave Video Boost off for anything you cannot film twice. That is a real cost on a phone where Video Boost is one of the reasons to buy the Pro model rather than the standard Pixel 11. Google deserves credit for confirming the cause rather than staying quiet, which is more than many bug reports get. It is still a headline camera feature that has been unreliable since launch day, with the repair several weeks out.
