Pixel 11 Gets a Surprise September Update, and It Isn’t QPR1

Google has started rolling out an out-of-cycle September update to the Pixel 11 series. The build is CD1A.260905.001.A1 and it arrived on 1 September. Google’s Pixel update support page carried no September 2026 entry when this was published. It is not Android 17 QPR1, which is still expected as a separate stable release later this month.

Which Pixel 11 models get the September 2026 update

Verizon has published support pages for the update, and they cover the whole current lineup. Each page lists the same build and the same 1 September release date.

  • Pixel 11 — CD1A.260905.001.A1, released 09/01/2026
  • Pixel 11 Pro — CD1A.260905.001.A1, released 09/01/2026
  • Pixel 11 Pro XL — CD1A.260905.001.A1, released 09/01/2026
  • Pixel 11 Pro Fold — CD1A.260905.001.A1, released 09/01/2026

The previous build on the stable channel was CD1A.260714.001.A9. The download is small, so this is a maintenance patch rather than a feature release. If you have already moved your phone to the Android 17 QPR2 beta, this update is not for you.

What is actually in it

The most detailed public description of the update comes from a carrier, not from the company that built it. Verizon’s Pixel 11 support page says the release “provides performance improvements and the most up to date Android security patches for your device.” The install screen on the phone is no more specific.

The security patch level is dated 1 September 2026. That matters more than it looks. Google publishes two patch levels each month, one dated the 1st and one dated the 5th, and the later level folds in additional vendor and kernel fixes on top of the first batch. A phone on the 1 September level is patched against the first set, not the full month.

Why Google pushed it early

No reason has been given for the timing. It is hard to separate from the Pixel 11’s first weeks on sale, though. Owners have been reporting bursts of static in Video Boost recordings since late August, and other complaints have piled up since launch. Shipping a patch two weeks ahead of the QPR1 stable release, carrying nothing but a boilerplate install note, is not what a routine monthly cycle looks like.

The part worth pushing back on is the silence. Owners are being asked to install a system update described only in boilerplate, and the clearest account of it sits on a US carrier’s support site. A changelog costs Google nothing and would tell buyers of a two-week-old flagship what was wrong with it.

How to install it

  1. Open Settings on your Pixel 11.
  2. Tap System, then Software updates.
  3. Tap System update and let the phone check.
  4. Download over Wi-Fi and restart when prompted.

Staged rollouts mean the update may not appear immediately on every device. It is also worth noting that this is separate from the September Android feature drop, which Google announced on the same day.
