Pixel 11 Pro XL for $874 at Mint Mobile, With Two Catches

Mint Mobile is selling the Pixel 11 Pro XL for $874, which is $425 off the $1,299 price its own listing strikes through for the 256GB model. The catch is that the price only exists as a bundle. You buy a year of Mint service upfront at the same time, which takes the total to $1,054 before tax. Two things Mint’s listing states in passing matter more than the discount does.

Mint’s product page lists both storage tiers with the same $425 taken off:

  • 256GB: $874, down from $1,299
  • 512GB: $994, down from $1,419

The service half is where the maths gets interesting. Every annual plan Mint sells is currently $180 for the year, which works out to $15 a month. That includes the Unlimited plan, normally $360, and the 17GB and 23GB tiers, normally $240 and $300. The 6GB plan is $180 too, so there is no reason to pick it.

Pair the 256GB phone with any of those and Mint’s checkout shows a subtotal of $1,054. The page also offers Affirm financing from $88 a month at 0% APR. Optional Allstate phone protection is $79 for a year. Mint caps orders at four phones and says taxes and fees are extra.

eSIM only, and locked to Mint for 60 days

Mint’s own spec table for this phone lists SIM compatibility as embedded only, and lists the handset as not unlocked. Both are easy to scroll past, and both change what you are buying.

The lock is the bigger one. Mint’s help centre spells it out:

“When you purchase a phone directly from Mint Mobile, it’s locked to our network.”

— Mint Mobile Help Center

Mint’s stated policy is that phones unlock automatically 60 days after activation on its network, subject to eligibility requirements it does not list on that page. So this is a two-month lock, not a permanent one. It is still a real difference from buying the same phone unlocked from Google, and it lands on a deal whose whole pitch is a year of commitment.

The eSIM-only part is a smaller catch that bites in specific situations. There is no physical SIM tray to drop a local prepaid card into on a trip, and no tray to move to a spare phone if this one breaks.

What the year of service actually buys

Mint runs on T-Mobile’s network and is owned by T-Mobile. The Unlimited plan covers talk, text and data, with up to 20GB a month of mobile hotspot and free calls to Mexico, Canada and the UK.

Mint’s fine print is honest about the ceiling. Go past 50GB in a month and you may see reduced speeds when the network is busy, and video streams at lower quality regardless. That is normal for a prepaid carrier at this price. It is worth knowing before you pay for twelve months of it in one go.

Who this is actually for

The discount is genuine, and $1,054 for a current flagship plus a year of service is a low number for the US market. But the offer is built for one specific buyer: a new Mint customer who is happy to pay a year in advance, does not need a physical SIM, and can wait two months before the phone will accept another carrier’s service.

If any of those three does not describe you, the sensible comparison is an unlocked Pixel 11 Pro XL at full price against a plan you can leave. Mint’s offer is limited-time and new-customer only, so it is worth checking the terms on the product page rather than assuming they still apply when you get there. For another angle on the same phone, Verizon has been running its own Pixel 11 Pro XL promotion on its priciest plan.
