Pixel 11’s Secret Pause Point Feature, and How to Turn It On

Pixel 11 phones have a Digital Wellbeing feature called Pause Point that Google never mentioned when the phones launched. It adds a short, deliberate delay before opening apps you’ve flagged as distracting, and Google’s own support page confirms it’s real, live, and exclusive to the Pixel 11 lineup.

What Pause Point does

According to Google’s support documentation, “with Pause Point, you can add mindfulness prompts to an app to limit how much you use it.” In practice, that means picking specific apps, usually the ones you open reflexively, and having the phone interrupt you with a brief prompt before the app opens.

Google offers five interruption types you can enable individually or all at once, cycling between them at random if you pick more than one: Breathe, Remind, Divert, Plan, and Reflect. Plan sets a timer for how long you can use the app, sends reminders as time runs low, and can close the app automatically once the timer ends. Divert redirects you to a different, pre-selected app instead, useful if you’d rather get nudged toward a workout app instead of opening a social feed.

How to turn it on

  1. Open Settings on your Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, or Pixel 11 Pro Fold
  2. Go to Digital Wellbeing
  3. Tap Pause Point, listed under “Ways to disconnect”
  4. Enable it and choose which apps should trigger a pause
  5. Select which of the five prompt types to use, and review the on-screen options for each

Pause Point is exclusive to the Pixel 11 series for now, and Google hasn’t explained why it’s limited to those four phones rather than rolling out more broadly across Pixel devices on Android 17.

Why Google never announced it

The feature actually surfaced first at Google I/O back in May, alongside a batch of other changes that were loosely tied to Android 17 or the still-unreleased Pixel 11 series. Somewhere between that announcement and the actual Pixel 11 launch, Pause Point dropped out of Google’s own talking points entirely. It’s the kind of small utility feature that’s easy to lose track of next to headline additions, but it’s fully functional if you know where to look.

One wrinkle worth knowing: reports suggest the feature is present on stable Android 17 builds but has gone missing on at least one device running the Android 17 QPR2 Beta, so its presence may not be consistent across every software channel yet.
