Moto E vs Moto E 2nd Gen Technical specifications compared

Now that the Moto E 2nd Gen has been official announced, how does it compare to the original Moto E?

Updated with official specifications of the Moto E 2nd Gen announced on February 25th.

Let’s take a look at the technical specifications of both the devices.

Operating System: The original Moto E is yet to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, and still runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The Moto E 2nd Gen will run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

Display: While the resolution remains the same on both phones, the size of the display has increased from 4.3″to 4.5″. The Pixel density is slightly lower on the new phone, but its display comes with an Anti-smudge coating.

RAM: The RAM remains the same at 1 GB on both devices.

Processor: The Moto E 2014 is powered by a 1.2 GHz Dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, and the Moto E 2nd Gen 3G uses the same. The 4G LTE variat however, is powered by a Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor.

Storage: While the expandable memory remains the same at 32 GB, the internal storage has been upgraded from 4 GB on the 1st Gen, to 8 GB on the 2nd Gen Moto E.

Cameras: The original Moto E lacked a front camera, but the 2nd Gen has a VGA front camera.  The rear camera remains the same at 5 Megapixelsm but offers a variety of photo and video capturing modes.

Connectivity: The Moto E 2nd Gen 4G variant supports 4G LTE  networks, which isn’t available on the 1st Gen and the 3G variant of the 2nd Gen phone. The rest of the connectivity features remain the same.

Battery: The Moto E 1st Gen packs a 1980 mAh battery, while the 2nd Gen comes with a bigger battery at 2390 mAh.

Price: The Moto E 1st gen was launched for Rs. 6,999 (about $112), the price was slashed on February 9th and it now sells for Rs. 5,999.  The Moto E 2nd Gen has been priced at around $120 for the 3G Variant (Rs. 6,999 in India), and $150 for the 4G LTE variant.
