Huawei confirms Android Lollipop update for Ascend Mate2 in the first half of 2015

Back in October, Huawei broke the hearts of it’s users by announcing that it will not update the Ascend Mate2 to Android KitKat.

Huawei Ascend Mate2

And last week, the company said it was reconsidering the update after users voiced their frustration, to protest the decision.

Today, we received an email from a representative who pointed us towards an official announcement from Huawei. And believe me, it is something that will make those users jump in joy. The company has announced that the Ascend Mate 2 will be updated after all.

But no KitKat for you, nuh uh. You will get Android Lollipop instead. Yay!

Lollipop Android 5.0

Here is what the announcement said:

Huawei Device is pleased to announce that Android Lollipop will be available for the Ascend Mate2 in the first half of next year. In light of your feedback, we have reassessed our upgrade strategy. We take our customers’ feedback seriously and want to ensure they have the best experience possible with the Mate2. The Mate2 upgrade will go from the current JellyBean directly to Lollipop.

It is wonderful to see that they have listened to user feedback, and decided to act on it. Not many companies do that, (yes I’m talking about you Sam). The Huawei Ascend Mate2 will be jumping from JellyBean to Android Lollipop, possibly becoming one of the first devices to do so.

“The first half of next year” part is a bit of a letdown, but I think it is just a safe deadline, and that they will launch it even sooner.
