Gmail app updated to bring back the delete and archive buttons by default

Google have released a minor update for the Gmail Android app today.

Gmail Android App

The update brings back the delete and archive buttons back to the main screen by default.

Many novice users misunderstood the previous update, thinking that the buttons were removed. Which wasn’t the case, all you had to do was enable it from the app’s settings.

And Google listened to their concerns and realised their mistake and brought back the buttons by default for all users.

If for some reason you wish to remove one of the buttons from the main screen, you can do that from the Settings> General Settings and select one of the three available options:

  • Show archive
  • Show delete
  • Show archive & delete

Gmail Android App - Settings- Delete & Archive buttons

I wonder why there isn’t an option to hide both buttons.

You can update the Gmail app from your device’s Play Store.
