Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 Is Out, but Not for the Brand-New Pixel 11

Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 is rolling out to Pixel phones, and it is the build that matters most in the cycle: this is the one that reaches Platform Stability, meaning app-facing behaviour is now locked ahead of the stable release. The odd part is which phones can install it. The Pixel 11 series, which only reached retail last week, is not on the list.

Google is shipping the update in three build buckets, and the third one is empty for now. Beta 4 is going out as build CP41.260814.003.A2 or CP41.260814.003.B1 depending on the device:

  • CP41.260814.003.A2 — Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet
  • CP41.260814.003.B1 — Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a, Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9a, Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold, 10a
  • CP41.260814.003.C2 — Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL, 11 Pro Fold, listed but not yet released

Downloadable system images cover a slightly wider list than the two released build IDs spell out: every device above plus the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, along with the Android Emulator — and nothing from the Pixel 11 range. Google’s line, as relayed by the outlets that covered the rollout, is that Pixel 11 support is coming soon — so this reads as the newest hardware being last in the queue rather than being cut. Still, buying a phone at launch and finding it is the one model that cannot join the beta programme is an odd position for a flagship owner to be in, and no release date for the Pixel 11 build has surfaced in the rollout coverage.

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are the ones actually excluded

The permanent cut-off sits at the other end of the range. The original Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are not supported and will not be — they fall outside Google’s software support window by the time this Feature Drop reaches stable release, which is targeted for December. Note that the Pixel 6a is still on the list, so the 2021 flagships are dropping out while the budget model launched from the same generation carries on a little longer.

What Beta 4 fixes

This is a bug-fix-heavy build — 16 separate issues, several of which are the kind that make a phone genuinely unpleasant to use. Among them:

  • Overheating and reboots — a thermal management issue that caused devices to overheat and unexpectedly restart during use (Issue #437116407).
  • Bluetooth call audio — calls defaulting to the phone’s own speaker instead of a connected Bluetooth device (Issue #537908014 and three related reports).
  • Face Unlock in the dark — low-light Face Unlock failures that bypassed fingerprint unlock entirely and forced PIN entry (Issue #547597971 and two related).
  • The 80% charge limit — the battery-limit optimisation causing excessive charge times in the final 2% (Issues #477009501 and #476803337).
  • Microphone lockout — an audio service resource lock during screen recording that blocked microphone use across apps, including Gboard and Gemini, until a restart (Issue #538229807).
  • Notification shade — a UI issue preventing the shade from being pulled all the way down (Issue #539244095 plus five related reports).

Status bar customisation lands

The most visible addition is a Status bar menu, found in Settings > System under System management, alongside Date & time and Users, with a shortcut also placed in Settings > Notifications. It splits into two controls. Notification icons offers All, Priority only, or None, with Priority only set as the default — meaning that out of the box, some notification icons stop appearing in your status bar. System icons lets you toggle the mute indicator, the vibrate indicator and the battery percentage individually. (Update, 31 August: three further additions have since been found in this build — see our piece on the one-time sideloading permission, Agents page and Private Compute Core data logging.)

Beta 4 also brings a Voice broadcast Quick Settings tile and a new Notification intelligence menu that gathers the AI notification summaries, notification organiser and cooldown settings into one place.

Getting it, and what comes next

If you are already enrolled in the Android Beta Program on an eligible Pixel, Beta 4 arrives as an over-the-air update. Platform Stability means the APIs and app-facing behaviours are final from here, so remaining betas should be about polish rather than change, with the stable Feature Drop expected in December. Anyone on a Pixel 11 waiting to join has no listed date; anyone on a Pixel 6 or 6 Pro is off the list for good. If you are wondering whether your Pixel is still in the update window at all, our recent look at which phones make Google’s Gemini Nano 4 list covers the other end of the same eligibility question.
