Verizon has started rolling out Android 17 and One UI 9.0 to the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G. The carrier lists it as System Update 16, released October 27, 2026. There’s one catch: the build carries the September 2026 Android security patch, not October’s.
The A16 5G is the latest budget Galaxy on Verizon to get the upgrade. The carrier pushed One UI 9 to the Galaxy A36 5G on October 22. That followed earlier rollouts to the Galaxy S24 and A37 and the Galaxy S23, Z Fold5 and Z Flip5.
What One UI 9 brings to the Galaxy A16 5G on Verizon
Verizon’s support page sums up the release this way:
This software update provides the latest Android OS 17 and One UI 9.0 features including Warranty Care, Interpreter and improvements to user experience, performance, security and privacy.
Beyond that summary, Verizon calls out four specific additions:
- Warranty and Care: a new Settings section to check warranty coverage across connected devices, run self-diagnostics, view repair estimates, and manage Samsung Care+ or book service
- Interpreter: a new History View, faster translation in Conversation Mode, and quicker playback with compatible Galaxy Buds
- Security Brief: alerts in Now Brief for malware, apps from unknown sources, and unnecessary permissions
- Privacy Alerts: on-device AI flags unnecessary attempts by apps to use permissions in the background
The security patch is a month behind
Verizon lists the Android security patch level for this build as September 2026. Other Verizon Samsung phones, such as the Galaxy S25, Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, already have October patches. A major OS upgrade that lands a month behind on security fixes is worth noting. It’s a carrier build detail, though, not a reason to panic.
How to install One UI 9 on the Galaxy A16 5G
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
Verizon estimates 6 to 10 minutes for the download and another 6 to 10 minutes to install. The build number to look for is CP2A.260605.016.A166USQUAEZJ5.

Timing for unlocked, T-Mobile and AT&T units of the A16 5G hasn’t been confirmed as of October 28. The phone is on our list of Galaxy phones and tablets eligible for One UI 9, so other versions should follow.
