ColorOS 16 July Update Lands on Eight OPPO Phones: Full Changelog

OPPO India has announced the July ColorOS 16 monthly update, and it is a personalisation drop rather than a functional one: custom fingerprint unlock animations, two new camera filters, a Contact Poster preview and a backup face profile for Face Unlock. It is rolling out in phases to eight devices, all of them from OPPO’s current Find X9 and Reno lines.

What the ColorOS 16 July update adds

Custom fingerprint unlock animations

The headline item. You can now mix and match fingerprint icon styles with unlock animations, so the single interaction you perform dozens of times a day looks how you want it to. In OPPO India’s own announcement, the goal is to make “everyday unlocking feel more expressive, engaging and uniquely their own.”

Two new camera filters

The stock Camera app gets Primrose, a warmer look aimed at portraits, and Bold B&W, a high-contrast monochrome option. Both live in the native camera, so there is no third-party app involved.

Contact Poster preview

You can now preview and adjust a Contact Poster before assigning it, instead of setting it and discovering afterwards how it actually looks on an incoming call.

Face Unlock backup profile

Face Unlock now supports a second registered face profile. That is genuinely useful if you regularly switch between glasses and no glasses, or wear a helmet or heavy makeup — the sort of everyday variation that trips up face recognition. Worth knowing that any additional enrolled face is one more way into the phone, so only add a profile of yourself.

The rest, in brief

  • Recent Tasks animations — smoother transitions when opening and switching apps from the multitasking view
  • System refinements — general stability work and performance optimisations, with no specifics given

ColorOS 16 July update: eligible devices

OPPO is rolling the update out in phases to:

  • Find series — OPPO Find X9 Ultra, Find X9s, Find X9 Pro, Find X9
  • Reno series — OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G, Reno15 5G, Reno14 Pro 5G, Reno14 5G

That is the whole list, and it is worth sitting with for a moment. Eight devices, none of them older than the Reno14 generation. If you are on a Reno13, an A-series handset or anything further back, this update is not for you, and OPPO India’s announcement names no other devices. For a set of changes that amounts to icon styles, filters and transition animations, that is a striking cutoff — none of this is gated by silicon.

Rollout timeline and what to expect

OPPO says the update rolls out in phases across July, with availability varying by model and region, so an eligible phone may not see it for days after a neighbouring one does. Check Settings > About device > ColorOS version > Check for updates, and if nothing appears, waiting is the only option — there is no way to pull a staged rollout forward.

One thing OPPO India’s announcement does not mention is the Android security patch level shipping alongside these features, which for most users is the more consequential part of any monthly update. If you are on one of the eight eligible devices, check the patch date after installing rather than assuming the personalisation features came with a current one. And if you are weighing an OPPO or OnePlus phone right now, the bigger software question is which devices make the ColorOS 17 list, not this month’s filters.
