The cushion story is also a pricing story

Beats is selling the swappable cushions as a way for buyers to express themselves. That framing is worth reading alongside the numbers. The headphone ships with one set, and every additional look is a separate purchase. At the $9.99 introductory price that is easy to shrug off. Once that window closes in a given market, each Cushion Kit costs $49.99. Two extra colour options would then add roughly 29 percent to what you paid for the headphones.

The cushions do have a practical upside beyond colour. Ear pads are the first part of any over-ear headphone to flake, flatten or absorb sweat. A replacement path that Beats sells directly is genuinely better than gluing on a third-party pad two years in.

Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Music, Sports, and Beats, framed the launch around that customisation angle:

Beats didn’t just participate in the rise of over-ear headphones — we helped define the category. Beats 360 is the next chapter of that story. We combined our most advanced acoustic performance ever with a perfectly balanced design that moves effortlessly with you. And with our new interchangeable cushions, our customers can express themselves in a way no other over-ear headphone can.

Specifications

The Beats 360 runs on a custom chip that Beats designed itself, rather than an Apple H-series chip. That is what lets it offer comparable pairing conveniences on both Android and Apple devices. Beats claims up to 1.75x more total noise cancellation than the Studio Pro, which is the company’s own figure and not an independently tested one.

  • Acoustics: custom-designed drivers with three-layer diaphragms and dual neodymium magnets per driver.
  • Noise cancellation: ANC and Transparency modes, with Beats claiming up to 1.75x more total cancellation than Beats Studio Pro.
  • Battery: up to 32 hours per Beats, whether ANC and Transparency are off with Adaptive EQ on, or ANC and Personalized Spatial Audio are on. Transparency mode drops that to 24 hours, and a 5-minute Fast Fuel charge gives up to 1 hour of playback.
  • Connectivity: Class 1 Bluetooth 5.3 via a bespoke Beats chip.
  • Durability: IPX4 sweat and water resistance, a first for a Beats headphone.
  • Android features: Audio Switch, Fast Pair and Find Hub support.
  • Apple features: hands-free Siri, automatic device switching, Audio Sharing, FaceTime with Spatial Audio, Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking, and Find My with network location.
  • Colours: Black, Cloud, Pink and Sky in Performance Knit, plus Black and Cloud in UltraPlush.

Find Hub support matters more than it sounds for Android buyers. It means a lost pair shows up in the same place as the rest of your Android gear, instead of only in an Apple ecosystem tool.
