After months of rumors, and leaked images, Nokia have finally unveiled their Android phones at the Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona.

Nokia X Dual SIMAnd it wasn’t just one phone like the reports suggested, there were three phones with very similar specs.

The three devices which were launched are The Nokia X, X+ and XL. All three phones have Dual SIM support and run on Nokia’s own version of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP),  called the Nokia X software platform 1.0. Users can also use third party app stores and sideload popular apps and games.

The OS also introduces a new tile-based Home screen similar to Windows Phone as well as the new notifications centre called Fastlane,  from the latest Asha devices. You also get a free 4 GB micro SD card with the Nokia X+

The devices will come with some preinstalled apps such as Nokia HERE Maps, MixRadio, OneDrive, Skype, Outlook and also includes third party apps and games including, including BBM, Plants vs. Zombies 2, Viber, Vine and Twitter.

Interestingly one of the screenshots shows an icon for Gameloft’s Real Football 14, a game which hasn’t been released. So it is possible that the game will be launching exclusively on the Nokia Sotre or come pre-loaded on the device.

Pricing and Availability

The Nokia X and X+ will be available in green, black, white, yellow, cyan and red. And the Nokia XL will be available in green, black, white, yellow, cyan and orange.

Pricing: (does not include taxes)

  • Nokia X – €89 (approx $123 USD or 7600 Rupees )
  • Nokia X+ – €99 (approx $136 USD or 8500 Rupees)
  • Nokia XL – €109 (approx $149 USD or 9300 Rupees)

The Nokia X will be available to buy immediately in Asia Pacific, Europe, india, Latin America, the Middle-East and Africa. The other two models will be available sometime in Q2 2014.

Nokia seem to have made a real mess here, mixing Windows Phone, Asha and Android into low powered phones targeted at entry level markets. I feel they should have gone with one entry level, a mid-range one and a high end phone. If only the Nokia XL had a better display resolution, pixel density, not to mention additional RAM and a price tag of around 10-11K Rupees, it would have been a challenger in the market dominated by devices offering better specs.
