Samsung’s final Q3 2026 results show its MX and Networks businesses, which include Galaxy phones, lost money for a second straight quarter. The two units posted a combined operating loss of KRW 0.6 trillion, even as Samsung as a whole set a record. For 2027, Samsung says its mobile plan centers on flagships and on limiting further declines in profit.

Samsung Q3 2026 results: the mobile numbers
Samsung’s October 8 guidance gave only company-wide figures, as we noted in our Q3 guidance report. The final release now fills in the mobile picture. MX and Networks brought in KRW 37.7 trillion in combined revenue and lost KRW 0.6 trillion at the operating level.
The release and earnings deck report the two businesses’ profit only as one combined figure. Revenue rose both quarter on quarter and year on year. Samsung credits that mainly to new flagship launches, including foldables. Earnings improved from Q2 on a better flagship sales mix. They fell from a year earlier, which Samsung puts down to cost pressures.
Samsung’s earnings deck shows how quickly the picture has turned:
- MX and Networks operating profit: KRW 3.6 trillion in Q3 2025, a KRW 0.7 trillion loss in Q2 2026, a KRW 0.6 trillion loss in Q3 2026
- MX and Networks revenue: KRW 34.1 trillion, KRW 33.2 trillion and KRW 37.7 trillion over the same three quarters
- MX revenue on its own: KRW 37.3 trillion in Q3 2026, up 15% from Q2 and 11% from a year earlier
A year ago, these businesses earned KRW 3.6 trillion. They have now lost money two quarters running, after the KRW 0.7 trillion loss in Q2. Samsung says Networks earnings fell on weaker North American sales and fewer high-margin software sales.
A record quarter everywhere else
The wider company had its best quarter yet. Revenue reached KRW 195.3 trillion, up 14% from Q2. Operating profit hit KRW 107.4 trillion. Samsung calls itself the world’s first tech company to pass KRW 100 trillion in quarterly operating profit.
Memory did the heavy lifting. The DS Division, which houses the chip business, earned KRW 106.5 trillion on KRW 147.1 trillion in revenue. Its Memory business set records for both revenue and profit.
The DX Division covers phones, TVs and appliances. It posted an operating loss of KRW 0.8 trillion, even though revenue rose 8% from Q2.
What Samsung plans for Q4 and 2027
For the holiday quarter, Samsung is counting on flagships to drive peak-season sales. It names the Galaxy S26 series, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Fold8, alongside new ecosystem products. It also plans to reduce profitability risks through efficiency improvements across its business processes.
In its earnings release, Samsung set out the 2027 plan for mobile:
In 2027, the MX Business aims to maintain its mobile leadership by focusing on three strategic priorities.
The first is a product mix built around flagships, tailored to different customer segments. The second is making products more desirable through hardware and form-factor innovation. The third is keeping profit declines to a minimum through faster market responses and operational efficiency.
What it means for Galaxy buyers
Samsung’s own numbers show the split clearly. The company is posting record profits from memory while its phone and networks businesses lose money. Its 2027 answer leads with flagships and with protecting profit. The efficiency push is framed around Samsung’s margins, not around prices for buyers.
Budget buyers are where that kind of cost pressure tends to land. Korean media reports of cuts to Galaxy A production remain unconfirmed. Market data we covered showed India’s phone shipments hitting a decade low in Q3 as prices rose. These results fit a flagship-first plan, but they do not confirm those reported cuts.
