Leaked images of the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 have surfaced, and they show a redesigned tracker with one notable omission. There’s no keyring or lanyard hole anywhere on it. Attaching the tracker to keys, a bag, or anything else will require buying a separate case with a loop.
A new shape, and a real downgrade
The images, sourced by leaker Sammyguru and reported by GSMArena, show the SmartTag3 adopting a squircle-like shape in at least two colors. It has a center button with Samsung branding and what appears to be a metallic finish, a step up in materials from the plastic SmartTag2.
But the missing attachment hole is the bigger story. Every SmartTag before this one has shipped with a built-in way to loop it onto a keyring, no extra purchase required. Removing that hole and pushing buyers toward a separate accessory is the kind of cost-cutting dressed up as a design refresh. A tracker exists to be attached to things, and Samsung’s own third-generation model now needs an add-on to do that job out of the box.
Samsung has not announced the SmartTag3 or confirmed any of these details. GSMArena reports that industry observers expect an official unveiling within a month or two. Pricing, battery life, and the case situation should all become clear then.
