Rumors have floated for sometime about Xiaomi working on their own SOC Chips or processors for their smartphones. Finally these rumors are coming to end, thanks to official announcement from the company that Xiaomi is set to launch its own Processor “Pinecone” SoC on 28th February at an event in Beijing China. The announcement came via their official MIUI forum, and includes an Invite teaser for the event.

Rumors about Xiaomi developing its own chips go back to mid-2015, when the vice president of the processor manufacturer Leadcore announced partnership with Xiaomi. Before Xiaomi, only few other manufacturers have their own SOC chips powering their smartphones such as Samsung has “Exynos”, Apple has its “A” series,  and Huawei has “Kirin” processors.  Till date, Xiaomi have used Qualcomm and Mediatek SOC chips in their smartphones.

Latest rumors indicate two Pinecone SoC chips with model numbers V670 and V970 in works. Out of these two, V670 uses 4 x A53 + 4 x A53 octa-core architecture with Mali T860 MP4 GPU, clocked at 800MHz and uses the 28nm process. Whereas V970 uses 4 x A73 +4 x A53 octa-core architecture with the 10nm process used by the high-end chips. Mi 5C is rumored to be first Xiaomi Smartphone to be powered by Pinecone processor with 4500 mAh battery and Omnivision Camera Sensors

At the moment, Company has not announced any details or the number of Pinecone models that may be announced on Feb 28. Stay tuned at Androidpure and we will keep you updated
