Xiaomi took the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max global on 27 August, and the phone’s headline feature — the largest battery Redmi has ever shipped — is not the same size depending on where you buy it. The global Pro Max carries a 9,210mAh silicon-carbon cell. The version Xiaomi launched in Japan on the same day carries 10,000mAh. Same name, same 6.83-inch panel, same Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, roughly 790mAh apart.
How the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max battery changes by region
Battery capacity is the single spec Redmi has built this generation’s marketing around, so it is worth being precise about what each market actually gets:

None of these are small batteries, and a 9,210mAh cell is still among the largest in any mainstream phone. But Xiaomi’s promotional artwork leads with “10000mAh” in numerals taller than the phones themselves, and a buyer in Europe or the UK who sees that visual is not getting that number. Xiaomi claims 37 hours of video playback, 19 hours of gaming and 13 hours of video recording for the global Pro Max, and says a full day’s charge takes 20 minutes.
The 10,000mAh figure is not a straightforward error, either — some launch coverage and Xiaomi’s own series marketing describe the Pro Max as a 10,000mAh phone in global terms, while the international units outlets have physically handled and tested list 9,210mAh. Xiaomi has not published a single clarifying spec sheet covering both, so check the capacity on your own market’s product page before buying rather than trusting the campaign artwork.
There is a second thing worth knowing across every version: the Note 17 Pro series ships on HyperOS 3, which is built on Android 16, not Android 17. Xiaomi promises six years of security updates, but a phone launching at the end of August 2026 on last year’s Android base has already spent one of its update generations before it reaches you.

Both phones share a 6.83-inch 12-bit OLED display at 1,280 x 2,772 with a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 3,500 nits and Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and both are 8.6mm thick — 223g for the Pro, 225g for the Pro Max. Both are rated IP66 and IP68, with Xiaomi claiming 72 hours under three metres of water. Neither has a headphone jack. Both run HyperOS 3 with six years of security updates.

The step down worth flagging is the camera. Previous Note Pro generations built their pitch on 200MP sensors with usable in-sensor zoom; both 17 Pro models drop to 50MP main sensors with no telephoto at all. The Pro Max at least gets the bigger sensor and the brighter f/1.5 lens. Storage is the other place to read carefully — the 128GB variants of both phones use UFS 2.2, which is materially slower than the UFS 3.1 and UFS 4.1 chips in the higher tiers, so the cheapest configuration is not simply “the same phone with less space”.
Pricing, and what happens in India
Global starting prices are reported at around $400 for the Redmi Note 17 Pro across five storage variants and around $500 for the Pro Max across four, with European retail listings for the 512GB models sitting at €599 and €649 respectively. Xiaomi’s global product pages did not carry regional pricing at the time of writing, so treat exact local prices as unsettled until each market’s store goes live.
India is on a separate track and is not part of this launch. Tipster Yogesh Brar has said the Note 17 Pro and Pro Max are due in India on 15 September, with the Pro Max expected to carry the 10,000mAh battery rather than the global 9,210mAh cell, and the Pro a 9,000mAh unit. The same report claims Redmi will raise Note 17 Pro series pricing by at least ₹8,000 over the Note 15 Pro generation. That is a leak, not a Xiaomi announcement, and the price figure in particular should be treated as unconfirmed — but if it holds, Indian buyers get the bigger battery and pay noticeably more for it.
