Oura Sues Ultrahuman Again and Wants Ring Pro Sales Blocked in the US

Oura has filed a new patent lawsuit against India-based Ultrahuman, this time aimed at the Ring Pro. That is the redesigned smart ring Ultrahuman brought back to the US after a 2025 import ban. Oura filed the complaint this week in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. According to Android Headlines, it seeks monetary damages and a permanent injunction to stop Ring Pro sales.

If you own a Ring Pro or are about to buy one, nothing changes today. Ultrahuman says no court order affects the ring and that it remains on sale in the US. A sales block is only one possible outcome of the case.

Why Oura is suing Ultrahuman again

The new case builds on a 2025 decision by the US International Trade Commission. The ITC found that Ultrahuman’s ring infringed Oura patents. That ruling barred Ultrahuman’s smart rings and their components from import into the US. Ultrahuman answered with a modified design, and Oura’s blog post rejects the idea that the change fixes anything:

After it was found to be infringing Oura patents, Ultrahuman recently introduced a modified version of its ring, claiming its redesign no longer infringed our patents. That claim is false.

That is Oura’s allegation, not a court finding. No court has yet ruled on whether the Ring Pro infringes. Oura says the new complaint asserts additional patents, among them both design and utility patents.

The patents and the Texas factory

Engadget, citing TechCrunch, reports that the suit covers two patents spanning the ring’s design and its internal components. Android Headlines adds that those internals include the battery and sensors. One of the patents, US 12,769,363, was reportedly issued just two days before the suit was filed.

Texas is also where the US Ring Pro is built. Per Engadget, the ring is made in Plano by SVTronics under Ultrahuman’s direction. SVTronics is named as a defendant as well.

The Ring Pro launched in February. Its redesign won a favorable ruling from US Customs and Border Protection earlier this year.

What Ultrahuman says

Ultrahuman CEO Mohit Kumar told TechCrunch, as reported by Engadget, that the company will address the claims through the legal process. He said Ultrahuman will defend its position. Kumar also pointed out that one of the patents was issued only two days before the filing.

Kumar has also said no court order currently affects the Ring Pro and that it is still on sale in the US. For buyers, that is the practical answer for now.

This isn’t Oura’s only legal fight over its rings. A separate case claims Oura’s sleep stages are estimates, not measurements.
