Oura Ring 4 Battery Faults Confirmed in Its SEC IPO Filing

Oura has confirmed that some Oura Ring 4 units had battery problems, and the confirmation arrived in paperwork filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission ahead of the company’s planned stock market listing. The filing says battery issues affecting certain groups of Ring 4 devices helped drive an $84.4 million increase in warranty expense during fiscal 2025. Owners have been complaining about Ring 4 battery life online for a while. The filing is where Oura itself finally puts a figure on the problem.

What the Oura Ring 4 filing actually says

The wording is careful. Certain Ring 4 production cohorts experienced battery performance issues, which led to more warranty claims and higher costs as affected rings were replaced free of charge. Oura attributes the increase to earlier design, manufacturing and supplier factors, and says testing and quality-control work has since been expanded.

One detail matters more than the headline figure. Some replacements were provided outside the normal warranty period. Oura generally offers a one-year limited warranty, except where local law requires longer coverage. So the company has, at least sometimes, replaced rings after that year ran out.

The $84.4 million is a warranty expense increase, not a payout to customers, and battery faults are described as one factor among several. It is still a large enough number to show up clearly in the accounts of a company whose hardware generated 80 percent of revenue over the nine months to June 30.

The part that leaves owners stuck

The filing does not identify which batches, sizes or purchase dates are affected. It does not say how many rings were replaced either. That leaves Ring 4 owners with no way to check whether their ring is one of the affected ones.

This is worth naming plainly. A disclosure written for investors tells you the problem was expensive. It does not tell you whether it is your problem. A batch list or a serial-number lookup would have told owners which side of it they are on. Owners are instead left to work it out from how fast their own battery drains.

What to do if your Ring 4 battery drains fast

If your Ring 4 has started losing charge noticeably faster than it used to, contact Oura support and describe the drop. The case for doing so is stronger now than it was a week ago, because the company has confirmed in a legal filing that a battery fault existed and that it replaced affected units.

That applies even if your first year has passed. Oura has not committed to out-of-warranty replacement in every case, so treat it as worth asking rather than as a guarantee. Keep your purchase date and any battery-life screenshots to hand.

The Oura Ring 5 arrived in June with redesigned hardware, and the company says it continues to monitor its performance. The filing also carries standard risk language warning that current or future generations could hit other quality issues. That is boilerplate in an IPO document. After an $84.4 million warranty swing, it reads a little less like boilerplate than usual.
